I recently read where fathers and daughters have a ceromony where the father puts a ring on the daughter and vice a versa in a 'marriage' type setting where the daughter promises to be a virgin till she is married. I don't know if it is just me but I found this a little strange. I do not know the whole story as what I read was in the newspaper here in Australia, so if people could fill me in and give their veiws I would be grateful.

I sure have heard of this before. Jessica Simpsons dad gave her a ring as a young teenager and she vowed to stay a virgin until marriage. I have also heard of it in a few other cases. So it does happen and not just in Austrailia. I think it's a good thing, but that is my opinion. We have talked about doing this with our daughter when she hits her preteens. I see nothing wrong with it. It isn't like you are forcing the child to take the ring. It has to be a mutual agreement between daughter and parents/father.

Thanks for your opinoin and views on this Foxxee. I have no problems with the giving of a special token or gift as a token of an undersatnding, but to have a whole ceromony where it looks like a wedding, and is made a really big deal of in front off a lot of people to me is starnge. I think if it is something that families are doing to try to help their teens be not sexually active until married, then it should be something that is between them only, not the whole community or extended family.
