true or false..softdrinks can cause uti?

Will this is just a question that came into my head. I have difficulty urinating nowadays and i suspect that im suffering UTI(Urinary Track Infection). For the past weeks I have been heavily consuming softdrinks because it is very hot here in the Philippines coz its summertime. Anyways i asked a friend of mine what are the causes of UTI coz she also suffered the same thing some time ago and she said just stop drinking softdrinks and drink lots of water..is this correct or not?
