Are you fascinated by other peoples misfortune?

I often wonder how people can be so interested in other people's misfortune. I saw a guy collapse in a supermarket not that long ago, saw he had assistance, and kept about my business. There were plenty of others just standing around watching. Why? Did they want to see if he was going to die? Also, whenever the fire siren goes off in our town, there are a few people who later say that they hopped in their cars and found out whether it was a fire or car crash, and then proceeded to take photos. Why would you want photos of someones house burning down, or their car all mangled? Is it because technology has made it so easy to have a camera, take photos and have them instantly, and people are looking for more 'interesting' stuff to 'show and tell' about? I don't really see the fascination. What do you think?

I see what you mean.. a few weeks back while jogging in the park a lady tripped a fell down. Many people rushed to help her and seeing that i continued to jog. As i continued about my business i continued to think about that incident and my reaction, why did i not rush like the rest of the people? After a lot of though within myself I knew that if nobody was there i would have rushed to help her, but since there were already many people around her i did not want to add on to the already embarrassed person. I believe that you should help when it is needed .. if it's not needed then dont create confusion by wanting to help. I guess many people in their enthusiasm to help dont realize that they actually are not.But taking photograph of someone's burning house for a story to tell your friends is definitely being very inconsiderate... to all such people i would just like to say "what goes around always comes around".

I think you are right about too many trying to help, but worse when people are just there for their own entertainment. And true about 'what comes around..'

I don't see the fascination in this either! Maybe some people's lives are just so boring that they have to try and spice it up by enjoying others misfortune? I will stop and help someone if they don't already have help. But I do know that I wouldn't want people just standing around and watching something happeneing to me so I will not do that to someone else... plus i have no wish to do that. To me that is a private matter... something that ALOT of people wouldn't want to much attention brought too...

Yes, I know what you mean. I would help someone if I could if they didn't have assistance. I would hope that people wouldn't just stand around gawking if something happened to me,too.
