judges wearing robes

why do you think that judges of the supreme court are using black robes in times of judicial hearings? and what about UK where their judges too wear one plus the wigs theyre wearing on their respective head..what does it signifies or suggest? anyone can enlighten me on this??share plss

its only a guess..robes signifies respect and authority on the judges..about the wearing of wigs on the UK judges as i seen on tv's maybe it was pattern on past centuries where they are using one as a distinction from others..

I guess it is just the colors they picked out that really works for them. I don't know what else it would be at all.
