No Water or No Electricity?

Philippines

When I got home from work yesterday afternoon, my landlady told me we'll have no water for days because they forgot to pay the bill and the connection will be cut. I felt awful about it and I'm sure I need not to stress why. I mean, water is such an important commodity to us, right? When I got inside my room, it was so dark and hot! Thank God there's no blackout. Then a thought came in to me, I said to myself, I rather sulk with no electricity in my room, than have no water in the house. I'm kinda talking and at the same time, praying for the water to come back. That night, my landlady told me, her son have paid the bill and the water is back. Oh boy! Was I glad! What about you? Would you rather lose water or lose electricity?

I think you can sue that landlady for breach of contract. If you have been paying rent punctually, the fault is all hers for having the connection cut. If she is a nice lady, I guess you can close one eye this time. But if she is a nasty girl, you should insist she allow you to pay less rent next time. As for your question, I think both are equally important. I would hate to lose either.

I bet you do hate losing both, no electricity means no mylot at home, no water means a stinking lord, hehehe! No, my landlady is a real nice broad. I like her. It wasn't her fault anyway, it's his son's fault. She had asked him to pay and he was being tardy.... Oh well, everything's fine now and this is the first time this happened anyway (after 15 months of stay there)

Gosh I hate when that happens! Especially during a blackout those are the worst. I think I would rather lose water than electricity. Water I can deal without, it would be easy for me to just run next door to my best friends house and shower or whatever I need to do. But electricity, nope! I don't like being in the dark lol. It would be such an inconvienence to some things like drying and straightening my hair, MYLOT!, light in general, charging my cell phone, etc.

Hmmm, but what if your friends don't have water too? Uh uh, bad right? See what mylot can do to us, we'd rather lose water than electricity because of mylot! hehehe! just kidding! I'm sure you are an electronic-savvy gal and electricity therefore is very important to you, but I'm also sure you don't wanna stink, it's a good thing you've got friends where you can run to {as long as they have water too} :D

Actually I think you could sue your landlady for breach of contract, especially if you've been paying rent punctually. Not only that, she didn't "forget" to pay her bill. Companies these days will send out a letter to let you know that you have so long to pay the bill or they'll disconnect the supply. She knew the bill was due but she's spending the money you pay in rent somewhere else. I've been without electricity and heat for 2 days back at Christmas when the apartment building opposite ours in the complex burnt down. The fire crews switched off the electricity and it was 2 days before they would allow it to be turned back on. Worse still, when they did, our apartment suffered a surge and it blew up the power supply to our PC. It took us a good while before we could afford to get a new power supply. No heat, no hot water, no electricity for 2 days. It sucked!

Oh I'm sure my landlady didn't intend for that thing to happen, I believe it wasn't her fault... Anyway, that's a rather drat situation that you've been in, I'm sure electricity is very important to you, but you managed to survive that ordeal in 2 days, hmm... I wonder if you could manage 2 days of no water...

This is a tough one. having no electrisity would suck. I couldn't even cook my food or surf the net :). Although if I had to walk around stinky and not at all comfortable would suck too. You know, I don't even want to think of that :).

Hehehe, you want them both as much as everybody else do... but sometimes we cannot have everything, at least you know what to choose if you'll be in a situation where you'll have to choose....

Sorry that happened to you I would have hated it. Anyway, that's a hard pick for me. I would say I need both equally. If I don't take showers my face/skin and hair get really greasy, so I need at least one shower each day. But also, without electricity, I wouldn't have been able to get online (well, I could have, but just for an hour or so before the laptop battery depleted), couldn't watch the news about Virginia Tech on TV, couldn't turn on the lights. Over the weekends I'd pick to lose water, because showering isn't as needed for me on the weekends. For a weekday, I would pick to lose the electricity. However, that's a pretty tough choice and I hate the thought of it!

See what mylot can do to us? We can afford to stink all day but we cannot afford no to mylot within a day! Hahaha! Well taymouse, I'm sure it's a tough decision but come to think of it, at least you are prepared if you'll be in an actual situation later in your life wherein you have to choose between the two.... hmmm, I wonder what you'll pick then...

of course no electriciy.. because water is the liquid in human bodies.. our bodies contain 78% of water.. if im not mistaken.. without electricity.. it's hot.. but atleast we still can survive.. in long term.. water will be much more important than electricity.. if you think of short term, then i would agree that electricity is much important.. because we can last 2 days without water.. if the water supply is to be cutted for more than 2 days... then i'm sure many will suffer :).. hope my post is not too long

Don't worry, nothing can be too long in mylot, :D ... and I sure understand your reasoning, hmmm... I guess you can be right too, it depends on the length of days... but I don't wanna risk it, I hate a single day without water, 2 days would be more than too much for me :D

I was going to say I would rather have water but I couldn't have a shower with out the electricity and wouldn't be able to chat to you all on My Lot either , But I would choose water I think , I was thinking the same as the others that you could hold back rent , but if it wasn't her fault and she was nice I wouldn't do that either , hope it doesn't happen again though xx

Chatting with me in mylot is really a worthwhile experience eh? hehehe! just kidding! No, it's not her fault alright and she promised it won't happen again anyway...

Well me personally I would have to say electric but I have a son that has ashma and he is on a machine at night, so if that happen to me i would be in deep trouble. And if I had no water then we would be in even more trouble.

I don't like both. If you ask me to choose, maybe I still choose better no electricity then without water. I've been in that situation too, my developer got trouble with water supply for a week at that time. And we were so mad about that, but we still can took the water from the developer by queue in the water tank, so we brought our pail at that time -lol- we also can bought water to other people also. Funny and tragic condition.

uh uh, I won't be laughing in that situation, that's really inconvenient! I don't wanna be in your shoes, hehehe! I need water to be easily available to me, uggh! I hate to fetch water from other locations just to take a bath!

I say, we're in this together! Hehehe! Water is really essential and I'm sure we can live with the inconvenience of losing electricity, but no water? Oh no!

The choice between water and electricity would totally depend on how long it was going to be off. If it were half a day, no water would be fine. If it came time to needing showers and so forth, I would rather do with out electrics because I can heat my water without electricity. In the winter, I would rather have the water cut for awhile than the electrics because it gets dark early and stays darklate, and the house would get very cold.

Well I wouldnt want to lose either and if your rent was payed then you should'nt have to worry about anything like that either. Never the less if I had to choose I guess Id want to be without the water. At least with no water you can shower at friend and family but with no electricty you cant do anything normal at home.

Good for you that you can shower with friends, but I cannot, I don't wanna be an inconvenience to them..

This Happens to me often, Me and my husband live in a house, where very often we have a big fight with our house owner for water. Usually they dont fill water to the overtank and ultimately that will lead to great disappointment when it is needed for the day. Each and everytime we have to remind them to fill the overtank. Once my servant maid didnt close the tap properly which made all the water to get out of the tank and the tenants were suffering from water scarcitiy and finally my houseowner insisted to be very careful. So experience differs.

That's a sad experience... fighting because of water, that just made water really really important...

Yeah, the inconvenience of no electricity would be easier to handle than those of no water...

tough luck for you my friend... as to your question, i would rather have both, you see, i worked in a water utility agency and we need electricity to pump water into the our pipe grid. and if ever our power is cut-off we have our standby generator sets to pump water which is too costly for operations...
• Philippines

yeah, i'm sure you need both alright, but I guess since electricity is essential for you to have water, that makes it more important to you, then water comes second, :D

I'd prefer no water than no electricity.. why? because I can just buy water while electricity of course not. I cannot live without electricity, It's very hard when you cannot charge your phone, use your pc and most of all light and air.

Yeah, I'm sure bottled water are easily available nowadays, but I do think it's rather expensive to buy gallons of water for shower eh? Especially us women, we like splashing our bodies with lotsa water....

I'd rather have no electricity than have no water. Water is essential in our daily lives and not having for even just a single hour would mean a great problem. Electricity is a secondary need though it's also very important nowadays. At the end of the day, we would still realize that we cant sacrifice the essentials with the secondary needs.
