Why our gov't always puts environmental issues at lower priority?

Why is it that our government always puts environmental issues at the bottom of the "to do list"? I know why(economy is more important) but why? I mean there are some things that are life threatening and no one wants to deal with them. And when we do deal with them it's at the last moment before we feel like we're going to die. That's so sad that trivial things(money, big houses, material things)have become more important than living. If economy and money is that big of an issue then handle the environmental problems before it gets serious. That way there is less stress, better chance for survival, and it will cost less!!! It's so simple and I know EVERYONE has probably thought about it but if everyone has thought about why aren't we doing something?

I know it really sucks man. I want a true Leader of the world to emerge and bring us all out of this crap. They want to pay companies like Blackwater and MPRI trillions every year to wage war and carve up countries, but the starving kids every where are left to die. Globalization stinks to the core and this democracy and freedom stuff is all crap. Who is the democracy for? A few ruling Elite? Even in the U.S the citizens don't get free health care. I saw so much struggle and poverty in New York, it frightened me. If they change agrarian policies too to help the environment it would help, substituting mono culture, which is making farmers sell up and move to urban areas, for perma culture, which would bring about healthy sustainable rural communities in harmony with the environment. Oh I wish I was up there to rule a nation man. So many things would change, mind you I'd probably get shot or over thrown by some coup detat!!

Environmental issues is of no value to the government because, the US nor any of the NATO, is taking any serious interest in it. Let's face it, these countries in this whole wide world, are all acting on whatever maybe considered by the NATO to be of the essence. If no dictates come from them about prioritizing environmental issues, you can be sure that no one government will lift a finger about the whole thing.

Yes I agree with you that maybe we should cast our vote only to those politicians that environmental issues is among their top priorities.
