Mylot Motivation: Why Do You Post? What's Your Favorite Mylot Experience?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 14 May 07

I thought it would be nice to have a discussion where people can talk about why they post to MyLot, or what they've gotten from the community here. Of course, the money is nice, but I for one find plenty of non-monetary rewards...

musicman6 Yes, wandale, money is the last motivation for posting on myLot for me! I find that there are hundreds of discussions on here that seem to catch my interest, and I enjoy responding to them! And the friends I have made are wonderful, they enjoy discussing on...

Are Greek myths outdated, or still relevant?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 18 Dec 06

A lot of the character archetypes that we see in today's tv and movies are based on some of the characters and stories of Ancient Greek myth, at least if you believe the mythology scholar Joseph Campbell. Do we like the stories...

Ashida All myths, including Greek, are incredibly relevant today. To answer part of your question, I think we are used to seeing them because they are part of the universal human experience. To see the influence of greek myths, watch any Disney movie from Lion King...

What is it about Citizen Kane that makes it so widely parodied?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 18 Dec 06

Citizen Kane has been parodied and satirized dozens of times. From the Simpsons to Saturday Night Live, many of the major comedy outlets of contemporary times have poked some gentle fun at Orson Welles' movie. What is it about...

janegosford I think it's just because there are so many iconic images from that film, it's easy to parody. I don't think most of the things you mentioned are mocking it because they think it's bad. I think it's just ripe for parody because it's so familiar to so many...

What is it about Citizen Kane that makes it so widely parodied?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 18 Dec 06

jeffaim In part, it's because Citizen Kane is often listed by critics as the best film of all time, and Orson Welles' best film...also because the "rosebud" mystery is not expected and comedy thrives on the unexpected, it is a natural fit for parody and satire. Plus,...

Is Citizen Kane really the greatest movie of all time?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 4 Dec 06

Citizen Kane is the "greatest movie of all time" according to the American Film Institute panel that put together their famous "top 100 films of all time" list. I love Citizen Kane and think it is a great film, but I'm not...

raulcaro2 I deeply agree. There are so many great films, so many! I never understood the habit of put films, books, paintings, etc., into lists. I just don´t see the point. Would be better if you say "look at this films, they're important", but not to prioritize pieces...

What Would Have Happened If John Lennon Hadn't Been Shot?

wandale @wandale (95) • United States 4 Dec 06

When John Lennon was gunned down, he was still in his artistic prime. I think he would have continued to use his talents to inspire his generation, and the next one, to purse lives of peace and beauty. Do you think agree, or was...
