What are image earnings?

I've noticed that in a bunch of FAQs, and various places around the site, "Image Earnings" are referenced. What are these, how do we attain them, and how much are they worth relative to discussion earnings?

wolfbyte18 Thanks mysdianait! So, it's really just a bonus which we get for making a better response? (The response would be better because we posted an image alongside it.) Sounds exciting, I can't wait until I hit my 500!
