This foundation was started in 2006 by the parents of Rebecca born on July 13, 2006 - 4 weeks early. She was released from the Newborn Intensive Care Unit five days after birth, supposedly a healthy baby girl. The next day she was severly congested with thick mucus, continuing her slow feedings, and difficulty breathing. They took her to the pediatrition and the hospital emergency room over the next few days. The doctors diagnosed her with a simple common cold, and she was repeatedly sent home. Unfortunately on the morning of July 21st sRebecca passed away. They later found that she had contracted a common enteroviral infection. Had her symptom been treaded she most likely be alive today. The parents started the R Baby Foundation to organize and fund efforts to improve the care for infants. R Baby is a non-profit charitable organization.

What a terribly sad story! It is scary that babies can die from such circumstances. Doctors are either too lax or too rigorous with testing and diagnoses. And I imagine that just a simple blood test would have show her infection and saved her life. My heart goes out to the family, I can't imagine losing my baby girl. She was three weeks early and luckily, healthy as a horse (*knock on wood), she is almost six months and hasn't even had the sniffles.
