Should guns be banned in light of the tragedy at Virginia Tech?

My heart goes out to the friends and family of all those involved in the tragedy that occurred on Monday. It was an extremely sad, shocking and senseless tragedy. I want to know how many more tragedies will it take before the US decides to ban guns? I doubt they ever will and that means that more tragedies like monday's will occur. How sad and terrible that the US cannot seem to realise that their country would be a far better, more peaceful place without guns being freely available. I'd like to know what others think.
