Personalising your things

Say you have just bought something new from the shop. If it is a book; do you personalise the front cover, let other people write on it and stick stickers on it? Or do you like to keep it as it was when you bought it? This is also the case for cars. Say you buy a new car, do you stick stickers; personlize the registration plate and do other things? What makes us personalize our stuff? Is it the need to be different when talking about a 'product' that many people have; for instance a mobile phone? Looking forward to your opinion on this issue.

Only children personalize their books. But yes... people personalize their home to live in an environment they feel comfortable with. And some do the same thing with their car. Personalizing cars is particulary popular with twenty years old. It is their first big purchase and they want their car to stand out from the rest. They want to be noticed. Same goes with clothes. Buying the clothes you like to wear is a way to personalize yourself. So is having a special haircut... or wearing an earing in you ear... or worse... in your nose. Young people have that need to stand out from the rest. So do every artistic people... because those people are free thinkers and don't get bog down by what is regarded as normal. Normal is just a state of mind. There is no such thing.

It will depend on what that thing is. If it is a book, no, I just leave it. If it is gadget like car or phone, naturally it is something worth personalizing! I do know each time I buy a new computer that I would spend the day customizing it to my satisfaction.

I do not do much of that at all. I only personalize things if I know someone else around has the same thing, so that we can keep our things separately from each other.

If its a book I brought that someone else wrote no I do not personalize it, but if it is a blank book that I write my own poetry etc in, I do personalize it... I see nothing wrong with personalizing items. It is fun and creative to do... Children do it more than adults because they are bubbling with creative energy... As adults we tend to find that the Postal services frowns on personalized evnvelopes, and the work place frowns on personalized work items etc... Not always so fun for a creative adult... For me it is not the need to be different as I already know I am difference... It is a need to express my uniqueness. - DNatureofDTrain

I usually see some mobile phone which is covered with all kinds of things, especially girls, that looks more beautiful, but for the boys ,I notice little of it happened. The same situations happened on the car. Some people like to put some things in the middle of the front glass. That's a usual habit to keep your personalising.
