Writing Your Own eBook and Making Money from It?

Is it possible to write an ebook and make serious money doing so? If you can make money, what is the best topic for an ebook?
I am not good at making money online and don't want to package a get rich quick scheme, but I am thinking about how I lost weight in 3 months and to post photos, my diary and menu.
Would anyone buy that if I sold it for $3 a piece?

I posted a 3-page eBook of mine about my relationship with my mother who has the AIDS virus. It's on lulu.com for one dollar. It's been up for about a month and no one has bought it. I don't have the time to sell it and publicize it so that's the major factor contributing to it not getting sold.

Making serious amounts of money with one ebook will be very hard for a few reasons:
1. There are going to be very similar ebooks on the internet
2. There are websites that offer ebooks on many subjects completely free of charge
3. How are you going to make people aware of your ebook?
Those three points pose enough questions and obstacles. Its very difficult to make a lot of money selling just one item, especially when its available for free elsewhere.

I think you should go ahead and try it... there is no harm in doing something with your experiences in Life...
The only harm comes from not trying in the first place...
