Do you think you can survive in an Amish community?

Do you think you can survive in an Amish community? I was watching TLC this morning and there was a special report about an Amish community. This Amish man, who refused to show his face on camera, said that he believes his life is more enriched and his lifestyle draws him closer to heaven than those people who wallow in material things and joys of the flesh. The daily life of that man was shown...how he makes bread from scratch, how he washes his clothes, how he makes his own clothes and all the basic things (they didn't have electricity and pumped water themselves). If you were there in that community, do you think you will survive? Why or why not?

I think that once I got used to not having electricity or running water, I could survive. Recently (this year) I started baking my own bread and cooking from scratch. I found that I really enjoy doing these things. I sew as a hobby so turning that into something that I did to clothe myself and my family wouldn't be too hard. Growing up we always had a garden so again, adjusting to growing my own food probably would be ok. I might have problems with killing animals for food, but as long as I didn't have to actually do the killing, I might be ok with it. I think the actual manual labor aspect may be the hardest thing to get used to, but the health benefits would be awesome. I would lose all my excess weight and gain muscle mass. I think that my biggest problem would be outhouses and no A/C, but even that can be gotten used to.

I Could survive in the Amish Communit as I do every day just not with thier lifestyle this is a hard Life but a much more layed back and more family oranted way of life and we let some of the convenations take over parts of are life and would not want to do with out tham but if we never had tham then we would look at tham as thing that are nice but could live with out. so yes Could Survive as we can Suvive a 100 degree day but could do it better with the fan and some would not want to do it without the Air but could do it with out. So I will still come Home to all the thing I say I can't live without and then have a smile to give away to some one that may need one.

Well I know I wouldn't survive it, I saw on The Oprah show her time she spent in an Armish Community, there is no way I could handle any of it, I like my comforts, I could even survive camping with comforts, I like all comforts around me, I guess I have been spoilt.

Being the person that I am now.. I'm a little bit too much of a show off, loud mouth and independent thinker to live the Amish lifestyle. Could I survive it? For a short amount of time I don't think I'd have a problem with it. It's a hard life but being so communal makes things easier. It's like living in one huge family. But after a few weeks I'd be ready to go home! Of course when you grow up in a lifestyle you don't really think about living another way. That's a whole other subject.
