Teachers who genuinely care about their students more than the pay (small though it may be), make the best teachers. The teacher needs to consider the needs of every child in the room and try to make the best decisions for all. Of course, that doesn't mean every child can have every thing. It's getting much harder to be a good teacher these days as any veteran teacher will tell you. I taught Kindergarten, and the baggage that some of those children came to school with was overwhelming. I've had children who were so lazy from being allowed to be couch potatoes their whole lives that all they wanted to do was loll in their desks and have the teacher entertain them. I had a little boy who had two brothers in the other class, and all 3 of them were trying to cope with an abusive home life. I had an only child who was so self-centered that he'd knock the smaller chldren down to get to what he wanted first. I had a boy who sat and talked to invisible people all day or else abused himself when he made errors -- probably Asberger's, but the parents were in denial. I had a boy with very low abilities who wouldn't do anything without one-on-one help. He was 8 the last year I had him, and his family never even let him put on his own shoes and socks. These are just a few examples of what I've dealt with and I can only imagine what teachers all over the country are dealing with. In spite of what teachers have to deal with, parents expect more and more from them to take up the slack for what they don't do themselves. Parents are their child's best teachers. However, many parents just aren't making the effort it takes to teach their children anything. As one mother told our other K teacher, "It's YOUR job to teach my child how to tie his shoes." Add this to No Child Left Behind legislation which puts additional pressure to do the impossible on teachers and the lack of funding for materials and books, and it's a wonder anyone stays in the teaching field. Being able to continue to deal with the job in this day in age is as about as ideal as many teachers can get.

A great teacher Interacts with the child (physically, and mentally) A great teacher gives affection to the pupils, makes them understand what emotion is. A great teacher smiles to his/her pupils even when they screw him up. A great teacher teaches not only text book materials but also The truth that's happening outside. Practice balanced with theory. A great teacher dedicates him/herself to the job. They made a commitment. Then they have to do it. A great teacher understands that a child is not only a tiny bundle of joy that can cry, smile, laugh. He/she must understand that in front of him stands a true miracle of life.

Well friend I think a teacher should be polite and friendly so students feel comfortable to study while in his/her presence.

Teachers need to be leaders of a type. They need to be able to catch children's attention and hold it, to be able to make things clear for the children. Patience is a must for any teacher. Also love, for teaching the children. Another good quality would be building trust between the child/children and the teacher themselves. Polite teachers are nice, but some children don't listen well, and politeness doesn't always work. They have to know when to draw the line, and when to stop teaching. A good teacher also enjoys their job.
