childcare in stores and such.....what do you think??

so i went to walmart today with my 16 month old, 2 yr old, and 4 yr old to stock up on food and things for this weekend. we are having a big party for my husbands bday tomorrow and then my family is coming over on sunday to celebrate my husbands birthday, my brothers bday and our cousins partners bday. my kids were pretty good but i think they are too comfortable in walmart. we are there at least 3 or 4 times a month. grocery shopping with my kids is just the worst part of my day..lol. it is so hard to think with the 3 of them either screaming or pushing each other. i used to live in nj and shopped at shop rite. they had something called a scrunchys playhouse. you dropped your kids off in that room and they played while you shopped....for free. why doesnt every store have this option. even if they charged a small nominal fee..it would still be worth it. the wegmans nearest me has one now i am told but they only accept kids 3-8. well i have 4 kids but only one falls into that age range. i think that all movie theaters, malls, stores and doctors office have some type of childcare. anyone with me on this????

My grand daughter loves the child care center at Ikea. She thinks its great. It would be very helpful to parents. I think wal-mart should consider it. On site day care for the workers would really help people out too.

I guess I can see why this might be a good idea, but I'm going to suggest the other side of things here. Why should someone else be responsible for watching your kids while you grocery shop? Isn't it a parent's duty to either make their kids behave while in public or leave them at home with someone else? I am a mother, and I can't imagine leaving my daughter in some daycare at the store while I grocery shop. Make your kids behave or don't take them with you.

not to sound rude...but you were a little rude. "make your kids behave or dont take them with you"...not really the best thing to say. well i guess you are mother of the year if your kids are such angels in the store. my kids arent terrible..they are just active, normal children. make them behave...i love that sentence. as if it were just so easy to "make them behave" all the time. i have 4 kids, 3 of them being toddlers. and just because i am a mother, doesnt mean that i can never leave them. they learn a lot from being left in different situations. and for the record...i used the one in shop rite when my daughter was younger and she absolutely loved it. and the option of leaving them at home? well i guess you either have a lot of family or lots of money to be able to hire a babysitter just so you can do the food shopping. i am not rich, nor do i have much family and none of my family is near by. i wish my life was as easy as yours sounds, but i live in reality.

I have to say, that was really rude. My children DO behave for the most part when I am anywhere. I just think that some things can be done quicker and easier when you can just focus on that thing and get it done. I can't tell you how many times I have forgotten to get something at the store because my focus is not on what I am doing. I think my kids would like it better if I can get the grocery shopping done in less time and have more time to spend with them doing something enjoyable. I can't always afford a babysitter either. Especially for just grocery shopping.

I've never had the option of a babysitter either. I don't live near family, I don't know anyone well enough to watch my son, and my husband travels for his work.

I am totally with you on this. I would totally use their services. We might actually get out of the house more often. Sometimes it is hard doing some things with your kids. Like you said, grocery shopping is the worst.

We had one at a local grocery store in one of the places I've lived, I didn't have a baby at the time. I'd want to know if the people running it were trained like regular daycare people before I dropped my son off. But it sounds like a great idea! Especially at walmart, I hate taking my son there!

It is a great service provided by so few stores. In our town, Wegmans grocery store has a place like you describe. You sign the kids in and then can shop alone:) They let you keep the kids at Wegman Kids Club for one hour. My daughter loves it there also. They have different activities for the kids to participate in. I have been going to Walmart lately because of the prices and my daughter has asked me to drop her off at Wegmans while I shop at Walmart. Too bad it doesn't work that way.

Many stores have that in my area. Ikea is a good one for that. Also my grocery store has it but the times are weird and I don't seem to get there to use them often. It is a wonderful idea. You might have a niche market idea....

I live in Scotland and my children are all grown up now , 2 of them have teenagers of their own , The used to be a large supermarket in our town had a creche , Th children were allowed to stay for a small charge and you had to show your till receipt to get them in for free, the children loved it and there were games and face painting , the shop was then taken over buy a huge chain and the creche disappear , I used to love watching the kids play through the large window looking into the shop , think it would help the store too , as the mothers would be more relaxed and then in turn buy more groceries xx

OMG..I totally agree! I would even be willing to pay a fee to drop by son off at a childcare center kinda thing while we shopped!!! As long as they have qualified childcare givers...I think this would be an absolute excellent idea!!! My son is almost 3 and hates to shop. He is absolutley rotten when we take him! I tried the whole, take him to the car thing if he misbehaves....but that doesnt work. He WANTS to go to the car..lol He will cry and screm the store down...I will take him to the car...and he will sit patiently in his carseat waiting for my husband to return...lol. I def think think that this is something to be considered. Maybe not at every shopping place..but even something like Walmart. You can pretty much get everything you need at walmart..including food...so I would def go there if they had a child minding service! :-)

Oh I would love it if they had this option at the local walmart, it would be benificial to the store as well, as parents would be able to finish thier shopping in peace. Even if they charged per an hour, I would def. do it. When I go shopping on my own, I'm in and out w/in a 1/2 an hour, when I take the kids, i'm there for at least an hour and a 1/2! *sigh*

I've often wished that certain places had child care. I would LOVE to take advantage of it. I have three kids, one will be 8 in June, a 5 year old and a 2 year old, all boys, all very active and the oldest two often argue. I try to go to the store when the oldest two are at school but it doesn't always work out. I think it's great that some people can have their kids totally behave in the store. More often then not though, I see parents like me with normal kids who are acting how kids do. My kids aren't as bad as some kids I've seen that are completly tearing up the store but man, when I take all three of them I end up getting super stressed out and forgetting stuff. I don't have the option of paying someone to watch my kids when I go to the store. My Mom isn't 100% percent health wise so he can't handle all of them for a quick trip to the store. Sometimes she can watch the two year old but even that is too much for her. If a store offered daycare while you shopped, I would definately check it out and see if I would feel comfortable taking my kids there. That sounds like most parents dream come true. A nice break while shopping.

I think that's a great idea. I know they used to do it at Ikea and it was nice to be able to walk around the store without having to wonder where the kids had got off to. Same thing, it was only a couple of bucks for an hour and I would gladly have paid much more.

With all the child abuse and kidnapping going on in the world today, I would be afraid to leave my kids with just anyone. I am not a trusting person when it comes to kids. My kids are raised but I would not leave my grandkids with just anyone either. There would no doubt be alot of papers to sign for this service and what if someone else came and picked up you child. Scary!

I have never heard of that but it sounds like a good idea. I would love to run to wal-mart and drop off my kids in the front while I go shopping.

That is a good idea you know how much faster you could get out of the store if they had that. Oh and the Doctors office would be wonderful they seem to take forever over there. You would think they would say lets hurry up and get her out of here so we don't have to hear those kids anymore but they don't lol. I think they would make more money. I hate going to the store because my daughter always acts up. When I have 2 I think I'll just stay home lol. If they don't provide daycare they should have where you can order your groceries online and just go pick them up. I would love to be able to do that lol.
