Strays are becoming a problem

I have lived in my house for 2 months and there are 4 strays that are hanging around, at first they didn't bother me. I don't feed them or even talk to them, there is a burned out house 2 doors down from us and I think that is where they live. Yesterday one of the strays attacked my 3 years old son and his friends, when we went to go into the house another ran into the house through the open door. I have 4 indoor cats and they went nuts when this cat appeared in the house. I chased it out right away but it and the others are still hanging around. I want to call the human society but my husband doesn't want to in case they are someones pets. I don't want them harmed or put down but they are starting to over step their boundaries and I don't want that. Any suggestions?

Well, even if they do belong to someone, if they are attacking kids, you have to do something. If the humane society takes them away, I would assume the owner would call looking for them, (if there is an owner) and would then hopefully be more careful about letting them out. And if they truly are strays, then you want the problem taken care of before they start having little ferel kittens. You coluld be doing these cats a big favor, they are probably ridden with fleas and in need of shots and a home that takes care of them. Good Luck.

I think the humane society lends live traps. I just don't want them put down, I can't live with that. I also had one of my cats go missing 8 years ago and it took 8 hours for her to come home, the longest 8 hours of my life. I wouldn't want to hurt a family by taking their pet away.

As much as I agree that I would hate to see an animal put down, these cats amy be posing a threat to your child and your cats. Cats forced to live in the wild eat whatever they can find and it can leave them with worms or disease that they could spread to your cats. And, if they attacked you child, they need to be controlled. Call animal control or someone to trap them and keep your child safe.
