my husband have been trying to conceive for a year and a half now so far without success. My doctor just put me on birth control a month ago to try to regulate my periods in the hopes that that would help me. I'm to stay on birth control for 3-6 months and see if i can't conceive within 2 months of stopping the BC. She's already told me she doesn't think i will be able to get pregnant on my own, not without some sort of help. She's said that she thinks i should try to do a cycle or two of chlomid after i stop taking the birth control (until i get pregnant, or it's been 6 months, whichever comes first). does anyone have an opinion about Chlomid or it's use? Or any sort of ideas i should bring up to her when i'm next in there?

Clomid worked for me. I was ot ovulating every month well enough to get pregnant. I only had to use one month of clomid and got pregnant just like that. I could tell a difference. before I used it I couldn't tell when I was ovulating but once I started taking them I could. I did get bad heatflashes while on it. Of course there is a chance you can have more then one on it. I only had one child. It did fix me because even after I had my daughter and started getting my period again I could tell when I was ovulating and had no problems getting pregnant this time around. I say its worth a try if you want to have a baby. I hope it works for you and you don't have to have anything else done. Let us know how you make out.

thank you for responding. My husband and i were feeling really iffy about it. I really want to do it and he's not so sure. Everyone in his family is saying we should just wait and keep trying naturally and not worry with Chlomid and that sort of thing. But we've been trying for well over a year so we've decided to go for it one i'm done with the birth control (for regulating my periods).

I don't think 2 months after stopping birth control is long enough to wait, some people can take 3-6 months before the birth control is out of the system completely & are able to conceive. Although, 1 1/2 years isn't a HUGE amount of time to try & conceive either, my partner & i were together for about 7 1/2 years, before we fell pregnant with our first & that was after being off of birth control for at least 2 - 2 1/2 years. Some people's bodies just aren't prepared so they reject things like that. Which we think was my problem! I think you're better off just trying on a regular basis & working out your cycles properly, if it's meant to happen then it will. Also, i have known many people that have a disorder (i cant remember what it's called, sorry) that causes them not to ovulate every month so that could also be a contributing factor - maybe? It took my Mum 4 years to have my sister after having me because of this condition & apparently it's very common. I hope you can conceive on your own but try not to worry about it too much, these things happen when they're meant to & as i said, it could take longer than 2 months to conceive after you stop birth control too! Good Luck :)

I have used Clomid 2x to get pregnant. Thankfully, each time it worked the first cycle for us. My son was conceived & born in 2005. We just found out last week that we are expecting #2. Good luck to you!

It worked for me also, I was having problems ovulationg every month. It is hard going through all that stuff and I wish you and your hubby luck!! Just don't give up because it will get harder once you get on the medicine. But I would definitely give it a try! I was on it and after the first three months I got pregnent, finally!! It seemed like forever for me, but it will hopefuly happen for you soon!!!

Thank you for the encouragement. We both really appreciate it. Hearing from someone else that it worked for them and they're happy helps us to get over some of our jitters about me taking it. His family's sort of told us "horror stories" about using things like Chlomid, but i really don't think they even know, i think it's just them being negative. Thanks for a really positive answer, it helps make everything easier.

It sounds like you're already under the care of a Dr. so they've probably already ruled out other possible problems. A year is a long time to be trying. If there's nothing wrong with your husbands sperm, no problems with the ovaries or fallopian tubes, etc then you should be ok. Clomid is something to use if you are having problems with hormone levels. If there are any other physical problems then they should be taken care of first or the Clomid may not work. I had some tests run to be sure that all of the physical parts seemed to be working properly. Then they did the blood work and it showed that I had a problem with low progesterone levels. That was the only problem in my case and one round of Clomid worked. There's a slightly increased chance of twins with clomid, but that's the only "horror" story I've heard about it. There are some possible side effects like getting a sick tummy, headache, etc.but they usually go away pretty quickly. If your Dr. has ruled out physical problems or worked to correct any already then go for it. :)

Hi Niecie86, I used Chlomid and it worked fine with me. I also had problem of irregular period and the doctor prescribed Chlomid. I only used for 2 cycle then got pregnant. I did not have any side effect from the Chlomid, but the doctor does warn me of the multiple pregnancy risk. On the last scan before the pregnancy, the doctor found that I had to chance to have triplets, but at the end only one egg got fertilised.
