Say what you like about sanity, it is cheaper.

Sanity - Ever get a little cynical about the treatment of people with mental problems?

There is a whole industry awaiting the gullible. I was thinking last night, the world evolves around victims and there is an agenda to keep people exactly where they are most useful. Useful to who - big question and an even bigger answer would incite argument after argument in relation to dark forces, Ahriman, Big Brother, Big Business. I can't contain my answer to your question, I'm having too many thoughts!! We live in a society where intolerance is huge, where political correctness is the order of the day, we are just coming out of the era where children are to be seen and not heard, and now that children are to be heard no-one is listening. Creative expression is kept to the classroom but only if you are doing Art or Expressive Writing as a subject. You only use your voice to express emotion if you are in Acting class, otherwise it is not acceptable, don't have a reaction. Feelings are those things that women have and men were told not to have. And if anyone were to have an overabundance of passion and dare to express themselves in a manner that is overpowering, they are labelled mentally unstable and should seek medical advice. Take a pill, calm yourself. AND BASICALLY STOP BEING HUMAN. And because humans have stopped being creative expressive human beings, we have an increasing intake of Psychologists at Universities mainly because they too are trying to understand the meaning of life and wonder why so many people are not happy. If they go do a course in the human psyche they may be able to fix someone else's problem, and by doing this they will solve their own. There is now a whole belief system, an understanding that if you feel emotionally imbalanced go to the doctor and get a pill. See a psychiatrist, a social worker, a psychologist. We the human race are not doing such a good job at handling our human condition, are we! Thank you for letting me express myself.

Well done, Tetchie, that needed saying. One of the reasons for this thread is the fact that I've seen so many people suffering through such hideous situations. One of the people here absolutely had me holding on to the seat with a response. This is so important, and not only are we not doing a good job of it, we're watching whole generations getting put through the blender. The Med Culture is one of the most appalling things which the human race has ever experienced. It hits right at all human survival values and instincts. We don't need World War Three, we've got this.

I did a discussion a few months ago, "Depression- what have you been told?" about my own depression, and how I beat it. Got a couple of other people who did what I did, just took the tablets and rebuilt ourselves, got fit, more or less got back on the rails. Your earlier point about stopping being human is quite right. It's such a sensitive subject, so personal and subjective, and the general ignorance is that much more destructive for that reason. It has become a sort of no go zone for much more than platitudes, and discussing it in any depth is pretty harrowing. The entire society, from diet to lifestyle to just plain sickness, is a mess. I think the psycho-epidemic is a result of this absurd, over-pressurized, environment we've created for ourselves. Difficulty being that to change that, it means changing the society. That is happening, slowly, as the new ways of living don't depend on the urban environments as much. With any luck, the computer might just solve a few human problems, too. It's just that by 2050 there are going to be at least ten billion people living on this Petrie dish of a planet. To me, a good definition of a sick society is a society full of sick people.

I'm not really sure what can be done about it. Is the problem now too big? If you were to add this discussion to the Depression tag I'd get negative ratings. Society has been creating this problem for many many decades. The problem will get bigger the more people are less active and glued to the computer (just like we are at the moment, lol). To solve this problem there has to be a holistic solution. These mental issues are created by more than one thing. Too much refined sugar, children drinking caffein, lack of exercise, Parents too busy, two jobs, paying mortgages, giving children the best clothes, having to perform, the need to achieve. If you don't keep up you get trod on and end up on the med scrap heap. Interesting also that those who are achieving are also ending up in the same place!

If you didn't have a problem before, just seeing the cost of treatment would give you one.

Hey, craftwave! Welcome back! Yeah, nothing like a self sustaining cost, is there? Hence the comment about post natal depression. Just what any new life needs, bills.
