Do you use a program to keep track of your CDs or DVDS?

I'm looking to use some kind or program or something to catalog my CD collection. I've got so many CDs now that a couple of times I've bought the same CD twice because I didn't realize I already had it. I want to be able to list the CD name, artist, year, and the year I bought the CD, at the very least. For DVDs, I'd like to list more info. I could create an Excel doc or something (or Access, which I've never used), but am wondering if there are specific programs designed to handle cataloging CDs or DVDs. Anyone have any ideas? Do you have a system you like?

Well I haven't done this with my CD's or DVD's but I did do it once for my VHS back when we had a ton of those. I justed used the computer and excel at the time. I prefer to keep things in alphabetical order and I found it was easy to add them in with that. I really should do that with my dvd's now. It would make it easier. I keep them in alphabetical order on the shelf but if someone borrows one I sometimes forget and this would enable me to mark it down someplace so I know for the future. If there is an actual program for it I haven't heard it. If you find out let me know.

Excel I've thought of because I know how to use it (sort of), but maybe Access or some other database would be better... ideally, I'd like to be able to search for and generate a list of movies by director, by main actor, by genre, etc. But for now I'd settle for just knowing what I have!

I do not have a library tracking system for my vhs tapes, cds or dvds. With the start of each new format, I swore that I would start off with cataloging the media. Of course, I got so excited about watching/listening I forgot, got behind, and have never done it. So I waste lots of time hunting for whatever I'm wanting to play.

Yeah, I hear you--I'd rather spend my time watching rather than cataloging, so I put it off... but I'm hoping I can find something that's easyto set up and use and it won't take much time.
