Here is a trick that I read in the reader's digest magazine. If you bought fruit that is not quite ripe yet because you bought it on sale or for whatever other reason, here is a trick to have it ready to eat in no time: Put fruit in a Ziploc bag with a ripe banana. The banana emits ethylene gas which ripens fruit.

Nice trick and valuable also. However we can apply a finger tip of lime instead banana and Ziploc bag to get the same result and interestingly, banana itself gets ripe with this method.

Thank you Ronimas. Your method is better. What do you mean by a finger tip? A little piece of lime? Could a whole lime do the work too? Thank you!

Here lime means a paste like edible substance prepared from shell lime or sea shell. Finger tip means, just dip your one finger in this paste and that amount you can apply on the tip of banana. You will get result.

For me it’s easier to get ripe banana in my place rather that lime. Since a ripen banana has such a wonderful effect it’s interesting to try it out to see its real effect.

Thanks for sharing the technique. Many a times we need this to ripe fruits. Some fruits if purchased unriped have long life but tastes good only when ripen. Will use this technique to ripe fruits.
