What's a 'blog' and what's its purpose??

I know what a blog is, technically, but what's it for? Can I make money off it even if I don't have any to begin with? Is it just a personal page for me to put my BS? Can someone help the internet impaired? I don't get it, but then again, I've been busy having and raising kids for the last 13 years. Now, I am still raising kids but I have time to figure out all this stuff. Thanks.

A "Blog" is a shortened version of the word "Web log." A blog is basically an on line journal that everyone reads, and can comment on. You just get a blog and start writing about your day. It's fun. There are millions of places on line to host a blog for free.
