Welcome, bejoy. I hope you enjoy it here at myLot. There are some wonderful people to get to know and learn from.
It is a little overwhelming at first. I recommend reading over the guidelines very well, then as you are looking around on the site things will begin to make more sense.
There are a few things you can do to try and increase your earnings. First, you really want to concentrate on quality, detailed discussions or responses ~ avoid one liners. You can earn a little extra by unplaoding photos that tie in to your dscussions. Rewarding "best responses" to people (found about each response you receive) is a good way to begin building your reputation on the board.

Hi welcome to mylot community. Just like you when i first started here, i was quite confuse but still i tried to post responses and i was really happy with the results. Well to start, if you want to earn here you have to start posting your own discussions or respond to other mylot members discussions. but make sure that the responses you will be making or posting has a good quality. Try not to use offending words. if you are wondering what the colored stars represents well it represents the reputation of the members here in the community. You can start earning a star when you have already posted 100 and you can keep track by looking the number beside your name. As the number gets higher, its much good because it means that you do posts quality discusions and somehow might increase your earnings. goodluck and enjoy posting!
