beliefs of wearing red in a funeral

i wanna ask why is it that it is not allowed to wear red in going to a funeral. we were supposed to attend a funeral but my sister was wearing red so my mom said she needs to go back in her room and change her clothes to aby other colors but not red. why is it? i asked my mom but she just answered me it's bad and it should be followed since even before it was followed as a belief and bad luck will come if you go there on red. is this true? why?
