Well, I feel somewhat shy while being a guest to a friend or some relative of mine upon having the invitation of lunch or dinner. I don't know why but I feel myself a little bit hesitated while eating and do not eat more than normal but sometimes less ;) How about you? How do you manage yourself while being a guest to someone? Thanks in advance for our responses!

I have never felt shy about eating when a guest of someone either at a restaurant or in their home. I always eat normal. Sometimes I do go little more than normal, but only if the food is really really good. I guess it is just that I figure, I am going to be me. If someone has invited me to dinner, then they knowingly are inviting me to eat so I am going to eat. None of this eating like a bird for me. I am a big girl and no one is goign to be fooled by my eating like a bird, so I don't even try. Besides, the only people I eat out with anymore are family or long time friends. They already know how I am so it isn't even an issue.

I am shy and feel awkward eating as a guest. Being female I am usually offered to do my serving first so have to try and judge what an equal share would be. I usually only take a little to make sure there is enough for everybody.

Yea a valid point of "first come first serve" basis. You are right that the first one has to keep the thought of others too lest the food would be shorten and the host would feel some embarrasment too. Again, nice to have your words, Thanks.

It all depends how well I know them! If I am at someone's house for the first time I will always be less inclined to eat too much and will usually just eat what is offered to me and leave it at that. If I am more comfortable with the people that have invited me or if they are family then I will go for it! What really annoys me though is when you eat somewhere for the first time and are offered something really, really tasty but in order to be polite you don't eat very much; even though you want to!

Surely it depends upon the intimacy with the guest too. Hummm a point of thought! I delicious food remain at the table only due to the fact of ettiqutes. Nice sharing of rich comments friend.

It really depends on where I am a guest. Sometimes I do not feel really comfortable and will tend to eat less than I normally would. If I am a guest at a good friends home where I am very comfortable, I will eat as if I were home.

I usually eat whatever is put in front of me. I don't like to leave any food on my plate as I would be afraid in insulting my host. If I like the food and they ask if I would like a second helping, then I would alway accept, if I wasn't already full. I think my hosts are usually flattered when I accept a second helping.

A good trait you have! for keeping one's hospitality value. Nice to see. Yes, of course the host would feel insulted if one just deny the offer to have some stuff to eat.

well it depends on the kind of friend i am going to visit. If its a new friend i generally eat less and make sure i am compused but then if its with one of my guy or girl friends, lol, i eat as much as they can afford to give me.

I usually feel uneasy to eat more when being a guest to other relatives or friends or any unknown place for the first time. I dont rush while eating and try to cope up with the atmosphere at the dining table by talking and respnding to other members. Sometimes help others while distributing food item to the extent possible and easier for me .I try to relish the food calmly keeping note of the time .

I tend to eat more. Especially if I am on vacation somewhere, i ALWAYS eat more. if I am at someone's house as a guest... it depends on if it's a sit down meal, or hor's d'ouvres. But I still generally eat more. I think it's a compliment to the cook that I love the food and want seconds!

For me it depends on whose house I am at having dinner. If it is a close friends or relatives I will eat the normal amount. If I am at someone else house that I don't know as well I eat very little.

I eat as pr my normal routine. But if I find that the foods are really very tasy and the host requests me to take more food repeatedly, then I eat more than my normal takings.

wow.. you reminded me of myself when i went for a wedding invitation.. i actually eat less than normal.. if i can eat 2 plates of rice in my usual meal.. i think i can only eat half of that if i'm at someone's wedding ceremony.. i think it's because of feeling embarass infront of others... we don't want to show others how hungry we are.. but some people just don't care about this.. they acted like they're at their own home.. they take lots of food.. and eat it like nobody business.. what's worse more is that they can't actually finish the food.. then it will be a total waste =_=

Well I guess it all depends on my mood and my comfort level... If I feel like home than I eat the way I eat at home as per normal routine whereas if I feel like as Guest than I eat a bit less as per the manners...

I am like you. I do not eat as much when I am a guest at someone's house. Even if it is a relative. Maybe it is because I don't want them to think I am a glutton. LOL!

I think I eat about normal. Sometimes I eat more because I don't want to be rude to the person who has me there as a guest.

I think when i'm a guest in someone's home I try not to eat as much as I usually would unless they know me very well. Its not polite to come in and just demolish another persons meal, especially if you've just met them. Its just polite to simply eat maybe two helpings or less, and say what a lovely meal.
