Has ASDA got more expensive?

ASDA/Walmart have made their name as being one of the most inexpensive food stores. In the UK the TV channels have been flooded with advertisements about ASDA being the cheapest. It seems to me that now they have convinced everyone that they are the cheapest, prices are shooting up. Milk has gone up by 15p, toilet rooms by 15p, fruit juice by 15p - seems to be a favourite figure with them! Have you found that your local ASDA has increased its prices or is it just a blip?

In regards to ASDA/Walmart they have bought some shops in here recently and the price are around the same as most big shopping centres and the prices have gone up within the last month I have noticed so I think this could be occuring in most of the big shopping centres.

Hmm so far a 100% agreement with my own thoughts and across three continents too . . . Doesn't look good for them, does it?

here I find walmart higher than my discount food store but we do shopthere if we need walmart and food atore the same time that does save us money. And sometimes the discount food store dosent have what we want so we have to wait till next time to go shopping

So the American version of ASDA is going the same way then. Do you think they have made their name on their cheap prices and now they just do as they like because it takes a long time to lose that sort of association?

Oh, the joy of Asda, I love the place, unfortunately we have to travel for over an hour to get to one and they don't home deliver that far from the store so I used Tesco, who are also heros in many ways although I prefer Morrisons bakery, I like Asdas own brand stuff and fruit etc. I want to go soon to get the kids some summer gear, but I don't really notice that I save much when I go there, maybe because we get so many treats, lol. I don't think it's that much cheaper than Tesco for food but I don't buy enough of it to compare fairly. Just remember, in Asdas they smile and smack their bottoms at you, what more does the average lady shopper need?

The average shopper needs low priced, nutritious and healthy food lol. Morrisons is too expensive for me and we don't have a local Tesco's but sometimes I ring the changes and have a home shop from them. I have to agree that I have bought some excellent clothing from ASDA at a very reasonable price though.

Shrek had the news on the other morning and they've just announced a new price war with tesco so now you know why it seemed more expensive. If I could get asda to home deliver I would or even morrisons as I love their bakery.

Thanks honey, but as I live over an hours drive to out nearest Asda they don't deliver this far yet, as it is Tesco is about 18 miles away, but they do cover us now. It's not like me to be cynical but you posted this a few days before I saw the price war on morning tv with an asda person interview. Let's hope the price war benefits us all.

Its jst a blip. Asda try to price things where the moto "more for you for less" is reality. For example in Minworths asda you can buy 4 packs of tropicana juice £1.88 or 2 for £1.50! Its cheaper to buy two packs! Look out for more offers like that!

I think it is a way of conditioning the consumers they get you so used to buying things there and beliveing that they are cheaper that it becomes a habit and you just buy the item and not really check the price or shop around.

I have to admit that I mostly buy the goods which are the same price or on offer in the local shops because i do not have much money, but I also agree that they do take more care of their customers and compete with a service level the large shops cannot come anywhere near. I can ring my local shop if I am ill and have no money and they will bring me the goods to my door and either take a cheque or let me pay when I am well. ASDA eat your heart out!
