I have a son who is 8 years old with diabetes, adhd and depression. It has been a very rough road. He is moody all the time. We rarely have good days. Most of the time it is spent trying to get him to mind, check his blood sugar and eat the proper foods. Is there anyone else that has this same problem?

That sounds like my little brother. I don't think he has adhd but he's in those difficult teenage years. He was diagnosed about 2 years ago and it seems like he has gotten worse with checking his blood sugar and taking his shots at the proper time. I think it's because he's the only one in the family with diabetes and he has no friends going through the same situation. He was doing better when I still lived at home with my mother because I would cook meals that were consumable by everyone. I think a support group would help him. I heard about a diabetic summer camp in my area and I would love for him to go and be around others that are feeling the same way as he does.

I have had Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years now. I got "lucky", I didn't get it until I was nearly 21 years old. Trust me, it isn't any easier when you are an adult. My best suggestion, remind him gently that caring for this the way he is supposed to know means that he will feel better for a lot longer. And he will feel better every day. I am sure that will be a difficult concept to get thru to an 8 year old, but it can't hurt. Does he feel sick or tired or whatever if he doesn't do what he is supposed to? Then you can hopefully make him understand that he can keep up with everybody else if he does what he is supposed to. You don't take care then you WILL be sick! Trust me, 20 years of experience right here!
