Yes it has been alot of years since I have been about 11 and yes I am in my 40's now and here in minnesota with all the new laws arising with the smoking bans and the such, let alone I have noticed some increase in lose of breath due to my smoking I seem to be having some concerns about this.A friend of mine told me about this free program here in minnesota that will set you up to help you quit and so I signed up with them and got a call from them yesterday and they are sending me free patches along with phone health support and also online help to beat this habit.I never knew such a program was out there or I think I would of done this long ago.And the cool part is it is absolutely free. I am just wondering if any other state is offering this to the people that would love to quit smoking?

Congratulations on quitting. I don't know if Michigan has such a plan, afterall, we are the poorest state in the union. Someone mentioned a quit-smoking program here on this site a while back. It was an Internet based program and I think it was free. Remember, if you want to quit, all it really takes is your decision to do so. Nothing else controls the choice to smoke or not other than you. Glad to have you among the many of us who have given it up for good.

hello. i am from the philippines. i am not sure if there are organizations giving out free patches. but i am sure that there are cousellings for free to those who are willing to quit. you are lucky mnflower. and i know you can make it. my boyfriend who lives in sweden decided to quit after 17 years of smoking. i did not tell him to quit. it was his decision to. he did not ask for any help from couselling groups. he just focused and had the determination to quit. and when he told me that he finally was over the habit of smoking last december... i say, it was the best new year's gift i ever had in my life. happy myLotting!

Congragulations. If you are having problems with breathing that is a smart thing to do. There are a lot of health issues that come from smoking. So that is the one main reason to quit but the new laws are making it hard for a smoker. Another incentive to quit is the fact that the price of cigerettes has gotten so high. I have not heard of a program that actually helps you to quit smoking and does it for free. I am a none smoker but my husband smokes. I wish he would quit but the person that has to decide that is the person who is smoking. Congragulations and I will keep you in my prayers. Let us know how you progress. We all are pulling for you.

Many congratulations on making the decision to quit. Now the hard work starts, but I'm confident you can do it. I've actually used a helpline once before when I was quitting smoking and the people were so so helpful. They sat and listened and if I had any concerns over things that I thought might make it harder to stay away from smoking, they gave me advice and hints to help ease the way. If you can get help such as what you have described for free, I say go for it! With help like this, I'm confident that you can do this. Hang in there!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I quit in november 2006, and let me tell you. it is NOT easy, but after a few weeks you will start seeing things and smelling things differently,.. I am so glad that i took the big step and suffered through the withdrawls and the moodswings. Just make sure that people around u know what u are doing, coz the moodswings can be pretty ugly *lol* GOOD LUCK!!! Let us know how u are doing...

If you decide to quit smoking, that is good. Because this habit may cause your health in trouble. Stick to it, it is good for you.

That is an awesome program. I think all states should have it. My husband quit almost 2 years ago after smoking for about 30 years. He used the nicotrol inhaler. I know it was hard for him but he has been alot healthier since quitting. Good luck I know you can do it.

Way to go and good luck. You can do it. I am doing it and if i can do it any one can do it. I was a smoker also for many years and Dec. 27th I was in the hospital and after I found out they charged 48.00 for ONE patch I said forget this mess. So, I guess you can say I have done it cold turkey. In 2 more days it will be 4 months for me. Yes, I do have a craving ever so often but it passes real fast. It is so much nicer to be able to breath, you will really feel a difference pretty fast. Not sure if you coughed or not, but that is gone now also. Oh so nice. When my grandson was here for his spring break he really could tell a difference. The other smokers in my family chose on their own not to smoke in the house and it smells so much nicer in here and that helps me not want a cig. Please keep us informed on your progress.

I wish you all the best of luck mnflower. I have been smoking for many years myself and I am getting nearer te 40 -ish mark. It's been on my mind for some time now to give up, one of those things you know should, but never get around to it. Come here often if you need extra support, it can't be easy.

lungs of smoker - Do you smoke? if yes then this is how your lungs look like from inside?
I thinki you should see what Oprah has to tell you about your internal organs if you need to quit. It has shocked me and will shock you too and may be strengthen your resolve to fight of the addiction of smoking.I wish you luck and leave you with this link: http://www.oprah.com/health/yourbody/slide/slide_yourbody_inside_06.jhtml

Congratulations and good luck! There was a program offered here (I'm not sure if it was Ontario-wide or just in my city) last year sometime and a number of people from my Freecycle group took advantage of it. As far as I know, they have all been successful in staying off.
