I'm looking for some new places to try camping at. It can be really any type of camping. Does anyone have any place that they would recommend going to? Thanks in advance for the help.

We like to go camping in state parks. They always have lots of things for campers to do. Our retirement dream, is to have an RV and travel around the country.

my parents have done that very thing for several years. it was always their plan. of course all during my growing up we would take trips, always camping. when I was real little we tent camped. when I was a little bit older we camped in a volkswagon van that had the pop up tent in the roof...too fun! the small seat behind the driver lifted open (all the seats had storage in them) and was the perfect size for the porta potty. We traveled up through central america in that van - the native children loved to run along side the van yelling hippy hippy...ahaha. then we graduated to a pull behind pop up tent. Then *they* moved along to various RV's and motorhomes after I left their house. so many wonderful memories involve camping, for me.

That would be really awesome to do. Just hop into the RV and drive. Go where you want to and when you want to. I know alot of people that do that and they love it. Keep dreaming and you will get there.

a view at Letchworth - One of my favorite camping destinations in the North East.
If you are in the North East I would recommend, highly, Letchworth state park in upstate NY. Toted as being the Grand Canyon of the East it is well worth the trip and stay. We roughed it in a pup tent and had a grand time! here is their webpage It has pdf files of which I have not opened any so am not too sure if there are pics or not. http://www.letchworthpark.com/ here is one from elsewhere... also Blue Mountain of the Adirondacks!

thank you so much for the best response. you might enjoy a book titled "Off the Beaten Path" which is full of places to camp - that are not widely known. It also gives a list of all the amenities and activities of the place and area.

Try going to a beach or a forest. National parks are great also.

I've thought about Yellowstone but I never thought about a beach. Thanks for the idea!

Well, it depends. For example last year I went camping at the Black Sea(Romania), but I didn't like it very much, I was cold at night; I was in a camping area, with no hot water. But I want to go camping again, maybe in the mountains, I like very much the idea of spending a few days in the middle of nature.

Ugh, I don't blame you. I don't think I would have been to happy being cold every night or not having hot water somewhere. Hopefully, your next camping trip will be alot smoother. :-)

Well I've been to a few places. Our friend took us to this one place and I forget what it was called. It is in Fl. north or Palm Coast, but south of St. Augustine. My gosh it was beautiful. It is a state park and you just have to make reservations. They don't charge you. You have to be there by dusk on the night you are going and they lock a gate when state park ranger leaves. You can get out if you need too. We stayed right along the water and cooked, drank, had a blast. Nobody was there around us. We had about 3 campsites to ourselves. The other place I would recommend is Gettysburg, PA. They have alot of great camp areas, tent or campers. You could get some history in too. Good luck. Happy camping trails.

Very cool, I'll have to look into to that area. I have an aunt that leaves down in Florida. Maybe she knows of the state park you've told me. I have always wanted to go to Gettysburg but never got the chance. My step-daughter lives in Philly and we plan on visiting sometime this summer so maybe we'll take a side trip. Thanks again!
