I didn't know but Mel Gibson is an Aussie. Well, he still does a great job of speaking with a Scottish accent to be an Aussie. I really like that movie as well.

I love Mel Gibson in Braveheart, but he's also a good director, he directs the film Apocalypto which I heard garnered a lot of awards.

Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson was born on January 3, 1956, in Peekskill, New York, USA. Mel and his family moved to New South Wales, Australia in 1968 when Mel was 12 years old. After high school, Mel studied at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, performing at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts alongside future film thespians Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush. Roommates with Geoffrey Rush in college. His family line goes back several generations in Australia, but his ancestors originally came from Ireland and Scotland. His voice in Mad Max (1979) was dubbed for the film's US release. While he may have lost his Aussie accent... what's make Mel stand out is his great aussie larrikin trade mark. Only Mel can make a joke in the middle of a dramatic scene... and get everyone to laugh.

Braveheart was an excellent movie. Mel Gibson did a fantastic job in not only playing in it but also directing it. He deserved the awards he got for it. I do agree when listening to him you would not suspect he was an Aussie. I know I didn't at first when I saw him in movies like Lethal Weapon. It was only afterwards that I read about it. I had no clue. He has done an excellent job with his voice and making sure the accent doesn't show through.

the first movie I watched with him in it was Mad max and I thought it was American movie! he always played well I think, in any movie, and I always wonder how he managed to stay in shape no matter how old he is now. He is also married with kids and his marriage lasts until now. very rare someone successful in career is also successful in relationship, I like him!

Mel Gibson is really an awesome actor. He knows how to deliver as well as carry the scenes in the movie. It was a well-made movie, touching and very emotional from start to finish. I am really recommending this movie for all ages but of course parental guidance is adviced for some action scenes ( I mean brutal action, you know those times of really fighting and killing through bare hands and swords). One of my all time favorite films.
