Our troop is planning to go camping this summer. We will camp in tents in the backyard. Then we will go somewhere else and camp in cabins. If we have time, we will plan a slumber party. The girls love to get together and spend time cooking, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. What will your troop do this summer?

I no longer have a troop since my girls are grown. But the years we were in scouting are years we will always cherish. We had great fun doing slumber parties and outdoor activities to prepare for our end of the year camping trip. I always enjoyed working with the girls to earn their badges and trying to find ways to include badge work in our camping trip. I am looking to the day when I can lead a troop for my granddaughters.

Two of my granddaughters are in troops but they are in different areas. What is fun now is to get my troop and one of their troops together for activities. Our girls have learned so much while camping. They have learned fire safety, outdoor cooking, and how to leave an area better than it was when we got there. We practice "to leave no footprints".

You don't have to have a child in the scouts to be a leader of other helper to the troop in your area. My assistants daughter is 4 and lives with her Dad. She was a great assistant, but had to work nights so I am now with out one. I would love for someone to offer to be an assistant. That would even get you ready for when your granddaughters re old enough.

I have three co-leaders. I enjoy the help that they give to the troop. We just went to two badge workshops for our Juniors. I am getting the Cadettes ready to bridge into Senior scouting. Also, getting the older girls ready to go to Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio. That is a big trip for them.

Oh my we have lots planned already but have not even thought of camping. It is so hard to get the girls to do anything outside of the meetings it will be hard to get them ready to go. The area does not have one planned for this year. And I have not had the training necessary. We will have a game night lock-in for just our troop and a bon-fire with horse back riding, and of course s'mores.LOL We are going to go skating , and we just had our Mall Madness. I will probably do something else too, but that is what we have planned so far.

We also had a leaders meeting last night. We gave out Awards to leader, Gold, Silver And bronze , as well as the council awards for leaders that were not received at the annual meeting. Our Area stops in may and then starts back up in Aug. I wish they would at least do a daycamp again. I loved doing a booth for games at the last one, but it has been more than a few years since we have had one. We had a lock in already for our troop. We started at 8 till 8 am. the area lock in I did we had to be gone by 7 am, that was just to early. Some of my girls are early risers and I think 8 works out good for us. I am going to see if one of the other leaders that has troop camp I & II will be going camping this summer and see if we can tag along.

Some of the troops in our area stop getting together after May awards are done. Our troop is one of a few that never shuts down. We do a lot during the summer on our own. The girls help plan the activities and away we go. They plan workshops to earn badges and trips. We might not get together every week but we do try to do something together every two weeks. Then when school starts, we have meetings every week. We have done this for 10 years now.

We had a leader meeting last night and planned out many activities for the coming year. These girls will have something available to do each and every month for a year in advance. You might do something short and simple like a slumber party at a leader's house or a local church. Have the girls come in at 9:00 p.m. and they leave at 9:00 a.m.
