Yes, I know you're going to jump on me for saying that. I know the character was named Brom! I'm just making a comparison. I just saw "Eregon" thanks to my IO cable early releases ordering system. Thank heavens for that - I hate going out to rent movies. I can never find what I'm looking for, and Hubby inevitably picks all war movies, leaving me with nothing. I tuned in and worked on some fret dressing (guitars necks) occasionally looking up to see what was going on. Finally, I gave in and sat down to watch (when Jeremy Irons made it onto the screen). I never bothered to read "DragonRiders of Pern" no matter how many times my best friend Sarah told me to read them. I just couldn't bring myself to sully the memories of dragons like those told of in Tolkien - such powerful, wonderful dragons. I liked the idea of dragon-riding, but it seemed a little too commercial Frisetta to me. I ignored them. Now along came "Eregon" which was approved by Ursula Le Guin herself, and described as a "Pern for the younger folk". Fine then, if Ursula can give it her go ahead, then I may as well watch the movie, eh? But the fact that Jeremy Irons was in it had me glued to the screen. Jeremy did his usual great story-telling bit, uttering his lines as deftly as a wood nymph lands on a branch - making words take flight into the world of fancy. But then I recognised the character, as he sat by an unlit fire and uttered a word of incantation to spark up a flame. Ah hah! I said, "That's Aragorn!" In the same way that the little Hobbits got to know Aragorn, so was Eregon learning to trust Brom. And oh, was he filled with magical words, hard won experience, and character. Wait, though - low, he bore the Mormegil! The what, you say? The black sword of Turin, Beleg, and Eol. Okay, perhaps I've gone much too far into Tolkien for you. Let's get simple - the older man with experience who has a strange cultured accent and wears rags but carries the sword of his foe....sound familiar? I didn't mind. I love Jeremy so much for his rolling tongue that I can forgive plot problems. He was ultra-delightful, always the keen swordsman, until he had to give up his character's life and do a fantastic death scene. I adored his last shot, on the back of the dragon... And well, his true last shot, laying in state and looking very stately at that. The man just can't look bad, even when wearing soiled leather and suede. He's a class act, and "Eregon" turned out to be a fine fantasy film that had so many elements of Tolkien in it that even the most die-hard Tolkienite would love it. So did you see it, and what did you think?

Alas, I wish I could say I did see it, I didn't even completely read the whole book yet--One didn't see the movie when it was playing since no movies near me played it...which aggravated me no end--I did start the book, but I'm in the midst of reading many books...mainly tech books about HTML/CSS, resolutions, scanning..uh, light reading..but I couldn't help notice the bit I did read the similarities between Eragon and Lord Of the RIngs...at once I thought Eragon..gee that sounds an awful lot like Aragon..although I remember hearing it's author, who actually started writing the book when he was a mere fifteen..yikes...is a fan of Tolkien..fifteen...could you write a book at that age--LOL---I hope to see the movie eventually..I do LOVE Jeremy Irons..I just love his speaking voice as it's very distinctive..and if I remember from the trailers..isn't John Malkovich in it as well...?? Loved the two of them in Man In The Iron Mask Your comparison of the characters..I can see how you compare the Jeremy Irons character though with Aragon...since he, Aragon roamed Middle Earth in garb like a beggar..forsaking and wanting to deny his heritage

Oh--I hadn't realized you gave me best response here...thank you--reason I'm here again...I just did see Eragon...oh, I loved it!!--Now starting to read the book again...Now I REALLY started seeing similarities between Lord of The Rings and Eragon --Remember the scene with the Shade rousing up the army to fight?? Now if that didn't remind me of the scene in LOTR where Saurman (Christopher Lee) was gathering the army in Two Towers I don't know what --Those "slimy" creatures that the Shade had in his control reminded me of Orcs..and in the book Arya does kill one and the author makes the comment of the creatures black blood--hey didn't orcs have black blood?? And of course the similarities of Aragon and Brom...Aragon had his sword...Anduril, and Brom his dragon fighters sword..even looked the same--Aragon knew elvish, so did Brom.. But even with all the obvious similarities...I loved it...I treated myself to the 2-disc version with the behind the scens info...I don't often buy DVD--but I thought it was time for a treat--LOL Want to see it again already!!

I watched this movie about a month ago and really like it including the hero character :D This film can compete with Harry Potter, i give it same points hehe. And from the ending, i know that this movie will have a sequel right?? The plot of this movie is nice , only the ending is not like what i want, that witch is easy to destroy, i thought he may be harder to be destroyed :D
