USA people, what do you think?

Bird Feeder I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now let's see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: you child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Hey, I just got this email too. :) But this is better, I can respond to it here on myLot. :) Thanks!!!! I thought this was an awesome analogy! America has come to exactly that! I received a cooler my mother sent in the mail and to assemble it, it came in 4 different languages! And each time I sit outside to cook on the grill, I am staring at two different languages of instructions to tell me how to light it! It is a constant argument that if Americans went over to another country, we would be expected to speak that language. But yet here...we accommodate different languages and more seem to be added with each new product I purchase!

You are so right, and I agree with you. What has become of a country that was so great? I do not respect it as I did before. It also is way too easy on crimes, for "people's rights?" Shouldn't they loose those rights when they hurt another? The taxes are killing us. I had to go to the back of the grocery store, to get a magazine in English. I felt like I lived in another country.

I saw that the other day!!! They had People or something En Espanol!!! But this gets better....check this out! http://telemundo.yahoo.com/ Isn't Yahoo a US based company? ha ha I get that they are world wide web....and making themselves multi-lingual is important. (Note: 37 languages Yahoo Supports) But here is a German Search engine.... http://www.abacho.de/ If you scroll down to the bottom...these are the languages this search engine is available in...Deutschland | Österreich | Schweiz | UK | Frankreich | Italien | Spanien | Türkei Notice what is missing? LOL So, basically, the U.S. will provide many languages and say that it is for equal rights. But other countries do not do the same? Hmmm...no wonder we are in debt as a country...we are trying to please the world!

You get an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ for this discussion. I couldn't agree with you more. Next time, place the bird feeder 100 feet away from the house...lol. The more the government gives away, the more taxes go up, the more people want a free handout and the more the honest workers don't want to work to see their hard earned $$ being given away. Then to top it off, the people receiving all these handouts constanly complain that they don't get enough free goodies. You have made and excellent point. Let the birds eat worms...lol

What a wonderful analogy!!! I think it's really great how you worded this. Yes, it is time for the government to take down the feeder. It's time for all those migrant birdies to fly away and make it on their own. I don't know what else to add, you have stated this so eloquently. ++++++

I tell people it's time to eliminate wellfare, unemployment, and similar programs all the time, and they give me blank stares and ask, "Wait, aren't you a liberal?" Well... no, I'm fiscally conservative. I agree with you, I don't believe my money should go towards helping people who aren't contributing to society as a greater whole, and many of whom are now dependent upon aid that was supposed to be temporary. That's one of the biggest problems with our great country, it's inherently flawed. If we really are a free market, and democratic (even though we're not a democracy), then the principles of "survival of the fittest" should be constantly in effect, and the taxes of the many shouldn't be going towards paying to support the life of the few who aren't working.

I could not agree with you more. The systems were set up to "help" and now they are a way of support forever for these people that have no ambition in life but to be taken care of. The taxes are killing us. What can we do?

I completely agree with you. As long as the government keeps on babying illegal immigrants nothing is going to get better. When will they learn to stand on their own two feet and stop asking for handouts?

I have gone through the posts. Out of the thirteen responders 10 are Americans who happily rated ++++++ ...... Now it takes me the beginning of history of 'American's. Who is an American? I wonder how the Americans could saying about illegal migrants and all... Yes, it is not fair for the birds and to humans as well.

I love how you did this comparison and it is very very true. If the government would quit pampering these people then they would leave because what they are here for is the free handouts. I like you think it is time to stop handing out. The more that is given to these people the more they are demanding. This subject can not be said any better than you put it. This is a excellent discussion. I gave you a plus++++++++++++.

I am glad you liked this discussion, and thank you for the +. It is so sad, that the USA has come down so much. The middle class are worse in anytime in history, as they are now. Taxed so much for them, and for the government.

Yep the bird feeder should come down. Especially since for the migratory birds (to use a bird related phrase) it is easier to get help then it is if you are a domestic bird. You know several years ago we looked into low income housing and we were told we didn't make enough money??!!! Yet come here from somewhere else and we'll help you. How does that make sense? They even just took away my son's SSI (he's disabled) saying that we make to much money!! We are a family of 5 with an income of UNDER $50k a year! Yet somehow my sister in law is disabled and she gets SS checks even though it is just her and her hubby and he makes more than we do??? What the heck is that all about?

I have the same question. When my husband was let go, we went to the government and asked if only I could receive medical for only 3 months. I told them that he will be working soon, and will get benefits from them. They looked me in the face and said,"if you were divorced you would qualify, but you are married, so no." Go figure. He is working full time at 70 years old because we cannot afford to live on s/s. We both worked our whole lives, and I only needed medical help for 90 days, and they said no. Yet others that come into our country are treated, and then they leave, leaving us to pay their bills. I don't even have ins.

I think that you are absolutely right, there are too many people taking advantage of what the government has given us. I really think that the government is giving too much to those who are willing to go to great lenghts not to work for a living. Its just sad how many people actually sit on there butt all day and gewt paid by the government to do it, i just don't understand how people can be so lazy.
• United States

They are lazy because they don't have ambition, as they government takes care of their needs. I saw a court show of a women in CA that was receiving $450. a week from the government to sit on her butt. That really upsets me, seeing how we all work so hard, supporting her, and we do without.

Just to remember: USA works because non american people accept to do jobs that almost americans doesn't like (or want) to do. Who wash your dishes, serve your food, clean the places you go? Of course are the immigrants! I dont't live in USA but I was there traveling I know you jave a bealtiful country as many others are but never forget that many unpleasant jobs are done by birds that needs to be feeded.

It is funny that you brought up about getting a bird feeder as I was thinking about doing the same. I am also thinking about getting a water bath for birds so they can either drink the water or bathe. Maybe that would be better than having a regular bird feeder. There does seem to be a good comparison between birds and people taking advantage of our country and government and us. The government does need to cut off services for those who are here illegally.

Hehhhee .. I like your train of thought .. and you are quite right .. I have fed the birds for years .. lots of sparrows finches, etc .. but there are so few birds now that the bigger birds have moved in where the little ones were .. Last winter I found I was keeping dozens of pigeons alive .. they'd sit in the tree all day and wait until I fed them .. then go back to the tree again .. if I was late with the food they start stomping up and down on my roof .. and they certainly knew where my bedroom was as the cooed loudly by the window hahaha .. So all the feeding dishes, trays, hangers, etc etc have been removed .. if I see little birds I give them food .. but I'm not spending £70 a year on hundreds of fat balls, 100kilo of seed etc just to keep pigeons in free food .. they can fly off and find it somewhere else !!

LOL Yep time to take it down and clean up the mess and give us back our tax money. I hear ya and I so agree with you. I am just sick of the government taking our money to pay for other people to been seen by a dr when we cant afford to go because our insurace has refused to pay for ER visits. Where is the justice?

I think the government should have removed that bird feeder a long long time ago. People nowadays have gotten so used to that "automatic feeding" that they don't know how to survive without it, because the laziness stemming from getting the free food has cemented their butts to their chairs. They aren't willing to lift a finger to help themselves anymore, and it's definitely high time for that to change. Take all of that free help away, and MAKE them learn to fend for themselves! If we can do it, so can they. And send the illegals back to their home countries so our people here will have the jobs and resources to learn to take care of their lives. Hon you definitely get many plusses from me for this one! ++++++++++++++++++++++++
