Okay, I work at a small country resteraunt called Granny's Apron. The food isn't anything special but I try to make the customers experience better with great service. I was wondering what everybody thought was appropriate tipping. Heres teh scenerio, You have a $25 bill, however you notice that your waitress (me) stayed on top of your refills, made some small talk, maybe even told a joke or two, and removed your dirty paltes as soon as you were done eating. What would You Tip Me? Just to let you know on average I get around two to three dollars from just an average party of two. Of course I have regulars that leave me $5 tips everytime they eat there. And there is one couple who are big spenders they don't ask for a particular server but they always leave $10 -$15 tips.

I would leave you about $4.00- possibly $5.00 as I usually leave a little more than 15% of the total bill. I believe that equiette books say that 15% is correct. Howevee, if service and food is good then I leave a little more. I think that it depends on the food also. My daughter is also a waitress at a small restuarant and she makes decent money in tips and she has been left a tip if she was just bussing the tables and done a good job with talking with the customers. She is vrey friendly and she likes to meet her customers. She has a lot of regular customers who would miss her if she was to leave and they have even bought her flowers for her birthday. She is going to a birthday party for a customer tomorrow and that is more meaningful to her than the tips.

I think that is a very resonable tip. Alot of people go by the 15%-20% rule. But the way I see it no matter what you should always leave at least a dollar per person. Once I had a party of ten leave me a $36 tip. It was really sweet though it was an elderly man who took his family out for dinner. They all had desert and he just paid with a one hundred dollar bill and left me the rest. Plus his son gave me $3.oo but I returned it and told him that his dads tip was more than generous.
