Does Your Child Have Something They Take With Them Everywhere?

Many of us are familiar with the 'Peanuts' comics by Charles Schulz. One of the characters, Linus, is always seen dragging his beloved blanket along with him. When my niece was just a toddler, she became attached to a teddy bear made of soft blanket cloth, that I'd given her, and she wouldn't go anywhere without it. She has it tucked away today, as a special keepsake, and she's almost 20. I gave my daughter a Lamb Chop puppet, when she was around 3, and they became inseparable. Lamb Chop has a place of honour in her closet now, and she's turning 16 this year. Does your child carry around, sleep with, need to have near them, a 'security blanket,' or other special item? Who gave it to them, and do you think it'll become a cherished treasure, when they've outgrown it? Has it ever been lost, and how did you go about finding, or replacing it?

I can see that your son likes to have a lot of different types of special toys. It's nice when they can take them with them to visit family etc. It sounds like your little boy lost something that was a favourite of his. It's sad when this happens. Thanks for sharing.

She must feel comforted by the hankie, just like having a blanket to some kids. Thanks for sharing, and welcome to myLot.

my son had a teddy bear when he was young and he took it everywhere. He still sucks his thumb when he is tired and he is 30 years old lol.

Thanks winterose. Come to think of it, I had a favourite teddy bear that I slept with. I've heard thumb sucking is very comforting.

My son is three and he has something new each day he carries. One day it might ba a plastic dinosaur, or a stuffed puppy, or legos, or hot wheel cars. What ever he likes that day. He carries it everywhere!!! Our rule is they can take anything they want to {within reason} in the car but they cant take it in the store.

It sounds like your son prefers some variety. That's a good plan you have, so that you're able to keep track of his toys easier. Thanks for your response.

My son has to have his bear, blanket, and soother to sleep and he is almost four. There have been days that he has wanted to take his bear to Day Care with him and other days he has wanted to take Thomas the train. He has also taken a car a couple of times. Most days he does not take anything. There really isn't an item that he has to take everywhere with him but if he is going to sleep he must have that bear, blanket, and his soother!!

You're fortunate that your son doesn't always have to take an item with him, as they can be very hard to keep track of, like when we almost lost my daugter's Lamb Chop a couple of times. It's great that kids can get comfort from sleeping with something special to them. It makes for lovely childhood memories, for parent and child. Thanks for your response.

I neglected to say that there are times when he has to have his soother but we are trying to limit it to sleep time...However, we have lost and replaced so many of these over the past four years. I would hate to know how big a fortune we have spent on this one item alone! LOL :) We also keep a couple dinky cars in the back seat of the car as he likes to play with them in his car seat... I think every child ends up having something I just never thought of his soother when I replied previously but that is definately an item he is attached to!! :)

It's so sweet my friend. They have kept them cherished and treasured. My daughter is 4 years old. But I haven't seen her attach to something she would carry around. Except before for her favorite Cds, but eventually they got broke and she diverted her affection to another cartoon.~~lol But, I find it cute that your niece and daughter cherished them and placed them in a well honorable place. It also means the person who gave it to them is so precious. Have a great day my friend! (^^,)
