Router - Network running slow?

I have a Wireless/Wired Router, I have speed problems when transferring files from one computer to another, or just browsing files on the remote computer. If for example I transfer a 500mb file to my laptop(wireless) from my desktop computer(Ethernet), The time remaining indicator will fluctuate between say' 30 minutes and 300 minutes. Or if I try to open a folder on the remote computer in 'My Network Places', windows explorer will freeze and i am left looking at the hourglass. Often when streaming music on the laptop, the music will keep pausing because the network cannot keep up transferring the data, but at 54 Mbps I should beable to do this easily. My router (Netgear DG834G) Lan speed 100Mbps Wifi speed 54Mbps

sounds like your set up like I am although I don't do the music thing I download movies and transfer to dvds, and i have two desktop ethernet and one desktop wireless and a wireless laptop...It is normal with lanspeed of 100mbps for the streaming music to load slow does the same with the movies I download, not sure why it is I think it is something with netgear myself we are looking at getting a different one actually..I hate waiting for something to download or upload I have to walk away I am on dsl wish cable would hurry and make it out to me out here in the county I would change in a heartbeat and get the fastest one I could.
