Can you pass up overtime at work?

We are always short staffed at work and it seems I do a lot of overtime. In fact I don't remember my last real weekend. I don't know why I do it as I really like my time off, but there isn't enough of it! I just can't turn down time and a half and I have my eyes on some new shoes. Can you turn down overtime or are you always available?

Technically, I can pass up overtime, but I have to take the workload because it'll all just pile up and nobody else is going to do it. I'm at the end point of software development so if I don't finish, the project will never be done. In my previous job, it was pretty much the same thing, but we had more overtime work because there was simply too few employees for the work involved.

It is under staffing around here that causes all the overtime. It wears on you after awhile. It sounds like you have an interesting job.

I work in a retail pharmacy and I'd love to be able to pull a couple of overtime shifts. In the pharmacy.. we are scratching for enough hours as it is.. And on Sunday's.. those are our premium days ie; time and a half.. and those go by senority.. soo I get zilch unless one of my co workers wants that day off... Otherwise.. yes, I'm basically always available for extra shifts... I too like shoes.. lol

Isn't it funny how those with are tired and those without want.

For me, it depends on my situation. If I am feeling Good and have the extra time, and overtime is offered and available, I take it. But most of the time anymore where I work or where my husband works, it is not. That is why I find online Business opportunities and sites such as this to make extra $$ from to help for extras we might need.

I generally accept any overtime that's available and in jobs I've had where there was never any overtime I've found myself doing a second part-time job to fill the gaps. The amount of money I spend relates to the amount I'm earning - I can live on very little money when I need to. When I'm working more I have less time to waste money and the extra I earn can be used to really treat myself when I do get time. In the future, I intend to work hard and save money and then take a long break to travel before going back to work again. When I want the time to myself I can turn down overtime but I like working so I usually don't.

I find myself doing a lot of overtime at work too, but I like to do it for the money as it always seems that we never have enough money to pay the bills. lol

I never did much overtime, except at the end of development cycle when it was required for every employee. Apart from that, almost no overtime. I really need my weekend, could work on saturday mornings though. Take care.
