I don't ususally have trouble falling asleep. I have trouble staying asleep. I wake up between 2 to 6 times every night. This has been going on for about 3 months. I have tried some over the counterr sleep aids, but I feel terrible the next day. ALmost like a hangover. Any suggestions for ways to stay asleep?

It could very well be related to your menstrual cycle, but it could also be caused by food allergies. Try keeping a journal of what you eat, and see if there is a pattern that emerges after a couple of months. Do you have cravings for certain foods at your time of the month? It could very well be cyclic because of when you eat what you eat.

I didn't mean a short term cycle. I wish it were that simple. It goes on for months, and the resolves for a few months. Then it starts over again. There really doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. The comment that you and Linda made about that picture- I looked tired- I was very tired. It is because of the constant waking at night. No changes I have made in my diet seem to help. Even when I was on Weight Watchers and eating VERY healthy, this still occurred. But thanks for the suggestion

I know you might get tired of hearing this, but since I went gluten free, a lot of things that I had trouble with have disappeared, in a week. You may have a gluten intolerance, too. One of the symptoms of GI is acid reflux. Something to think about. I used to think I was allergic to eggs or lettuce. But, now I think all this time it has been wheat. I was eating toast with eggs, and bread or croutons with salad. Try cutting wheat products out of your diet for two weeks, and see if your life improves.

I have trouble staying asleep but of course alot has to do with my pregnancy right now. My daughter sleeps in the bed with me and she also had trouble sleeping before until I got a small fan. The white noise as they call it helps us sleep better. Maybe you can try that. Not sure exactly whats waking you up at night but it helps more then you think.

I might try the white noise as well. I'll have to see if it bothers my husband though. He has NOOOO trouble sleeping!

don't think, do breathing exercises like deep breathing inhale deep and exhale very slow or ,,, ignore thoughts in your mind and concentrate on just the way you are breathing normally, concentrate on each breath and clear your mind this way...

My problem is initiating sleep and staying asleep, it even worsens when it counts the most like me not having sleep for 24 hours already and I need to go to work early for the next day...My worst experience is almost 3 days not having any sleep at all and i needed to go to work! I was so exhausted I almost wanted to quit!
