My take on the situation is as follows. These are my views and may not necessarily be true. You are advised not to be influenced by the response without investigations from your side. Prior to the last assembly elections, the power situation was not so bad. The then chief minister Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde had the enviable task of ensuring that the congress government returns to power. The Shiv Sena - BJP combine announced that they would provide free power to farmers if they were elected. Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde also included this offer as a bait to attract more votes. The Congress along with the NCP formed a government in Maharashtra and true to their word, power to farmers was free. The farmers on the other hand decided that if the power is indeed free why not replace the 5hp motors with a 10 hp one so that work is completed faster considering that they did not get a 24 hour power supply for free. The agriculture demand doubled overnight. Production however could not keep pace with the demand. MSEB had to resort to load shedding to ensure proper distribution. I am told that farmers no longer get free power. However the damage has been done. It is not economically feasible for the farmer to replace the 10hp motors with a 5hp one. That this decision was one of major factors is confirmed when the power problem is solved miraculously once rains start and the farmers no longer require the pumps to water their farms. This means that the farm sector demand for power has sky rocketed although the farm production has not increased substantially. Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde was of course promoted and has now become the central power minister! Other states are now trying to emulate his action. Soon we will find a lot of states facing the same problems that the once power surplus state of Maharashtra is now facing. Hope good sense prevails and we start thinking about the repercussion of a decision before ensuring that the party is more important than the state.

people are responsible. If more people consume more power then there will be power shortage. In todays news paper there is the story of a policeman named Raghunath Tapkir of Pune who has installed wind mill in his home and reducedthe power consumption by half. If all people follow his example there will be no power shortage in india.
