Did someone (like your parents, friends or enemy) tried to discourage you with your passion? If yes, how did you cope up with it?

Well, nobody has ever dicouraged me, yea some mean ones did sneer and gave sarcastic remarks, but that never let me down. My parents though point out my wrongs, but that just encourages me more to write better next time.

it is good that you have a talent on writing, leanette. do not allow anyone to stop you from pursuing it. instead, try all the more to refine your craft. it is good that you have a supportive mom. good luck in this endeavor.

Nah, no one ever tried anything. After all, I am not a professional. I don't write that much, but I really like to do so. I wish I could earn money doing it, and I found a website that could pay me. I'm trying to write a book right now.

No one has discouraged me so far, but even if they did it wouldn't bother me too much. I would certainly reflect on it positively and see if i find any truth in what they say, if i dont agree with them then i continue doing it anyways. It's my passion, my life and hence my way and it is not dependent on anyones opinion.

This will probably sound silly, but myself and my enemy always try to discourage me from writing. Because they're one and the same. I am my worst enemy when it comes writing and stuff like that. I still do it, however, and enjoy it at the time, then pick it to pieces later.

There was this one person here on mylot that tried to do that. His name is "oldbuddy" He told me that after reading my article that my writing doesn't flow and needs some grammar work. He also said that I shouldn't just drop everything just to write because I need some work with my writing. I took it as positive criticism, but I started my own discussion to encourage other aspiring writers to follow their passion.

Yes they did. I got the "unless you take a creative writing course, unless you went to University, unless you take a course in journalism: and the worse, "unless you send in your manuscript and they accept it" or "unless you do not get a rejection letter" you cannot be a writer. And you are wasting time, etc. and you will never be published. I just keep on writing and try to improve. Not on Mylot of course. I tend to take short cuts.

I don't understand why anyone will ever stop or discourage somebody from writing. writing is a good thing to pursue. only few have true writing talents. we must be thankful if somebody close to us pursues this talent for good.
