This is so inhumane. Workers in an industrial city of China have admitted that a substance that found its way into pet food killing dogs and cats in the United States, is routinely added to animal feed as a fake protein. And the killer additive is called....... "Melamine". For years........ some Chinese Animal Feed manufacturers have supplemented there "Animal Feed" produce with "Melamine"....... which is supposed to be a cheap additive that looks like "Protein" in tests even though it does not provide any nutritional benefits. Many countries in China......... buy Melamine scrap to make animal feed such as "Fish Feed" and "Dog Food". One of the manufacturers of Melamine has said that there is no such regulation within China that restrains from animal feed manufacturers from adding "Melamine". Maybe, no such regulations have been placed till now coz there was no such accident reported earlier. And, as per this company, in China atleast......... no regulations come up atleast till there is an accident. In April this year...... 16 pets were reported dead and the death was reported for the presence of "Melamine" in "Wheat Gluten" and that has made pet food manufacturers the world over to re-call 60 million packages of "Wheat Gluten" across the world. There are also concerns that "Melamine" could also be found in food meant for "Humans"....... food that contains direct "Wheat Gluten"........ or its additives. Is'nt it inhumane. The story has been extracted from :- http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/313689_petfood30.html

Hi Kukkad, yes I would say that this is inhumane it certainly is not right for the Chinese people to be able to substitute protein with a poisonous substance that is dreadful and can also affect fish. Oh my goodness well I do hope that they can find out more about this seeing that they may be able to put it in human food some how, of course this is inhumane.

the implication of this development is too much to bear. what if we will be buying fish which had been fed with this product? we become victims, too, on the second level of consumption. there must be something which can be done to have china under surveillance by the united nations.

Oh my. Did I read that right? There is a chance that humans could also get this substance.?!! I think it is just awful that we have to be so afraid of what we eat. I think the government should have tighter regulations on this, and leave our private lives alone!

This has gotten out of hand one news article talks about how the Pet food companies sold the recalled pet food to people who raise chickens and pork so now this food is unfounded in our meats..... People really need to start to pay attention to what is in the preservatives and additives and on the lables of everything they buy and eat, if you have the internet research the chemical there.. And think would I want this in my body even at small doses? .. The worse chemical I let into my body is Phosphoric acid... and Caffiene... I like coca cola.... and it has never had any bad effects on my health, it has helped keep my throat clean of excess mucus and keep my asthma under control for me personally is why I drink it... Differe things work and effect different people in different ways. of you find yourself getting ill and you do not know why look at what you are eating or drinking, look at the stuff in your cosmetics, and cleaners as well... Dangerous things can be inhaled or ingested easier than people realise... Please becareful and be smart. I think one way to solve this problem is to do you best to buy from the local markets those things that are sold locally... and only purchase in corporation chains thing you can not buy locally.... This not only cuts down on the risk of importing chemicals and diseases, but when it comes to food it cuts down on the amount of preservatives and chemicals used to preserve it haul and tranport it and the risks decreases. - DNatureofDTrain

while we can't decide what other countries allow in thier foods and pet foods I do think the FDA needs to put a stop on what comes into our country .I think we need to voice our concerns to the people we vote for let them know this is not acceptable to us .Buying from all organic sources is best but expensive hard to do when you are scarping money together for each month and the amount is limited. Point blank our food should not poison us or our pets the FDA's job is to make sure it don't .

it is outlandish! the bottom line anymore seems to be the $$$ signs. and what happens when people eat animals that consume melamine? it is horrific what the majority of the food industry does to its customers. it truly is.

This event just goes to prove that stricter measures are needed as far as import and export of food and food products. We also need to pay more attention to the packaging and storage of food products. I am almost afraid to eat anything now because it could be tainted. And you are right it takes a catasptophic incident to make someone notice that changes have to be made. How many have to die before someone decides to turn the switch?
