Because of stupid, selfish people in India. One doesn't like to see if the other is going up, he pulls his leg to become equal or low to him. Many people have regional, religion feeling.
INDIA NEED NOT TO CHANGE, INDIAN PEOPLE NEED TO CHANGE.

It is because of the lack of infra-structure and facility and lack of government interst in other sports then cricket and all... and the involvment of politcs in the screen...
