History has shown that all those countries which were the "leaders" or superpowers if you will tend to end up failing eventually. Usually due to political corruption, and feelings of apathy from the citizens who begin to feel they can do nothing to change the problems that the powers or politicians are creating, or ignoring. There was a time when no one thought the Babylons could be defeated, there was a time when no one thought that the Roman Empire would fall, there was a time when it was thought that rag tag colonists couldn't defeat the mightest army in the world, that the power of Great Britain was to strong. But Americans did it. Eventually there is a huge and likely risk that Americans will become to complacent, to sure of themselves and someone will come along and take them down a peg. There are industrial issues, as well as enviromental issues, issues of resources and power consumption that the politicians are ignoring, either due to lack of interest the feeling it is not my problem because it is an issue their children or grandchildren will have to face, or because they are being paid off by people that are to busy making money in the now, to see what the future might bring. As long as that continues then it is very likely that the USA will not remain, the superpower. There was a movie called the Day After Tomorrow, in which a global weather disaster takes place, because of this, people in the USA are fleeing across the border into Mexico, and while this movie is fiction, I thought hey you know what, what if there is a time, when the USA is not the place to be, how will other contries react? Has the USA given aide to other countries yes, but why, and when was that aide given? was there a motive, something that made it seem more of a problem than a help? And if so then how can you expect other countries to view the USA positively? I was born here, and I still would rather live in the United States than any other country in the world, but that doesn't mean I am not aware of the problems that exist, of the arrogance of those who seem to take the power for granted. That kind of arrogance is never going to be viewed favorably, and can and usually does lead to self destruction, or the inability to defend self properly. This is something that should be a real concern for USA. And maybe it is for some. I know that 9/11 took away some of the arrogance that the American people were feeling, made them see that we too could be vulnerable. So maybe it is a wake up call. As long as the we continue on the path that George Bush has begun then this country is doomed to fail, When any power starts to take away the rights of its own people let alone the rights of people in other countries then it is asking for trouble. It is setting itself up to fail.
