What home remedies can be used for thickened toenails?

Toenails became thick and unsightly. Tried topical treatment prescribed called Exoderil but absolutely nothing happened in fact the nail continued to be come thicker and opaque looking.Has anyone with this condition tried anything that worked?
Are there home remedies that can be used to get back toenail to normal?
