What would you like to receive from your toddler or preschooler for Mother's Day? I have a home daycare and I am trying to decide what my daycare children will make for their moms for Mother's Day. I feel like every year we do some kind of photo or handprint type gift. After 20 years in the business, I am ready for a new idea!

Well my lil girl will be 5 this year. Anyway last year for mother's day her and her step father made me a flower pot. They went to walmart and got one of those $1 flower pots and my daughter painted all over it and wrote I love you mom on it, they then put my favorite flowers in it and gave it to me that morning. It was very sweet and I thought it was very creative. Also it did not cost alot. So in my opinion that would be a good idea!! Good luck!!

picture flowerpot - picture flowerpot.. one of the best gifts I ever received
I know there are plenty "flower pot" ideas here. But the one I enjoyed the most was a unique flower pot. you'll need: cheap, small flower pots green styrofoam pipe cleaners construction paper glue pictures paints You need to get a small flower pot, allow the kids to paint their individual pots. Then fill it with styrofoam (preferably green) Have the kids trace their hands and use these tracings as "flowers" on about 3 different color construction paper. When you cut the hand prints out, fold the paper in half to get 2 prints from 1. Then you take green pipe cleaners and attach them to the back of one of the hand/flower cut outs. Then attach the other hand cutout to completely cover the top of the pipe cleaner. Then take some digital pictures of the kids in class, maybe making the project. Print it out on normal paper and cut out small picture circles, hearts, whatever shape. Then glue the pictures onto the flowers. On the pot you can paint "Happy Mothers Day" on the lip and have the kids decorate around that. N ow the moms have a flower pot filled with special flowers that never die!!

My daughter last year came home with something really cute. Get some construction paper in the colors of brown, green and yellow. You will need scissors, of course. First trace the childs hand on the yellow paper and then cut it out. Next draw a flower pot on the brown paper and cut that out as well. Then the next step is the stem. Cut out a green stem about as long as ruler and half the width of the ruler. Then fold the stem from bottom to top, so it can look kind of springy. Then you glue the stem to the pot and the handprint to the stem. Then on the hand you write "My love for you, grows each and every day." you can also write "Happy Mothers Day" on the stem. It's a cheap project and fun. You can have the kids color or paint the hand. Whatever you decide, just make sure you write the little saying with a sharpie. I loved getting this. Let me know if you like the idea or if you don't understand, I'll explain more. :)

You explained it perfectly! I can vision it right now. Sounds like something easy that even my younger ones can do.

I don't have any ideas at the moment of what you could do but I do have an idea of what NOT to do. Every year that I had a child in preschool they would have the kids paint a flower pot or draw a paper picture to wrap around a flower pot and then they would plant a marigold in it. I loved getting the flowers. I love marigolds. I loved looking at the pretty designs they'd painted or drawn for me. I loved how proud they were of bringing me a flower for a present. But....I don't get along well with plants. I have killed every single one I've ever gotten. Can you imagine the guilt caused by killing your child's gift to you? So please, for the sake of all of us moms who aren't so good with plants, please do not give live plants of any kind as gifts from the children! I'm already dreading this mother's day because my oldest son already told me he bought me a plant...with his very own money too which is making me feel worse! He's only 8 years old. Oh! I just thought of something! How about you buy the generic white coffee mugs and let the kids paint them with paint that doesn't wash off easily! Then all of us without green thumbs can happily drink our tea while those plant loving mom's use theirs for flowers!

I work in Head Start and one of the teachers made flowers from cupcake papers. She glued one to the front of the card made from half folded construction paper. She used a popsicle stick for the stem of the flower. The kids had dyed, crushed egg shells from Easter. They put glue in the bottom of the cupcake holder and sprinkled the shells in. They are cute.

My daughter (now 13) and I were joking a few years ago about how she never made me a "macaroni necklace". She wasn't in daycare as a toddler & it's just one of those things that never came up anywhere else. So now for 3 years running she makes me a macaroni necklace for all holidays. I love them :) I've also seen macaroni used to decorate cardboard picture frames and then a picture is added to complete the gift.

ok i've seen this molding kit at the store once. it's not a flat handprint thing. it's a 3d handprint making kit. i also saw a commercial for the martha stwart show and they made a homemade molding kit for that as well. check her website for it. it's so cute and amazing. then it was a mold of the chil's hand and then she had put the hand in a certian position so it could hold a flower.
