when there is rice, the best to use is spoon and fork of course! Unless you're used to using chopsticks, it can get frustrating. When I'm on one of my crazy diets, I try using chopsticks. That way, I'm only eating a few at a time and when I get tired I give up. That means I did not eat as much as if I used a spoon. That makes me happy! LOL!

Well, usually I use chopsticks to eat, for it is a tradition in my country China:). When I am in the cateen in my university, I often use spoon, which is more convenient and easier to wash. As to fork... I seldom use it, for it doesn't suit to the foods here except cakes.

When you learn it well.. are chop sticks faster and more efficient than forks or does it totally depend on what food your eating? Is there any reason for me to learn chop sticks other than to become ultra-cool?

I dont require any instruments to eat my chicken and rice. I can just eat it with my hands(fingers).

I use chopsticks and I think it works quite well in a number of dishes. But it really depends on the dishes to decide which utensil is the best. I wouldn't use chopsticks for cutting a steak for example. So I think it's more cultural thing. For Asian food, it works better with chopsticks. Just imagine you need to hold a sushi with a fork, chopsticks would be easier. With western food, of course knief and fork are better.

I use a fork at home, chop sticks at an Asian restaurant or when prepared by some Asian. The rice made here at my place isn't the sticky type of rice which sticks together, so if you eat it with chopsticks you end up picking 1 rice thing at a time. Now that just doesn't work out well. Whilst in the restaurants here and most Asian people use the sticky type of rice, that you can actually eat with chopsticks.

I probably use forks the most with spoon as a close second. I'm not good at using chopsticks and rarely use them though they are fun to try on occasion.

In the office and at home i used spoon and fork. When eating at some japanese restaurant i use chopstick, there are certain food like sushi and sashimi that uses chopsticks. But in picnic and going to beach i use my bare clean hands when eating.

if given rice and chicken, then fork is the best utensil to use. rice, since it is actually asian. best fits with chopsticks-- japanese and chinese do well with it. forks are used when food served is western, usually mashed potatoes or corn kernels are their substitute to rice. pasta is also eaten best when used with fork. spoon is generally for soupy dishes and its the least i prefer.
