Dolls are the first thing given to girls. I think they like them becouse they are not given a chlice when they are younger. Alot of people will tell a girl that cars and trucks are boy toys which is not true so the girls believe that they shouldn't play with the other toys.

I think they both let children use the same sorts of imagination.. dolls are marketed to girls for that purpose and action figured to guys. I think it is societies fault for creating roles for children ie to play with dolls if your a girl... my sister never liked dolls.. i liked action figures though

It's partly a sexist thing, but it's also part of the female genetic code to nurture things. Boys genetic code is to build or fight (originally to preserve their mates and offspring -- survival of the fittest and all that). I know many little boys who'd love a baby doll while they're very young, but they usually end up with a teddy bear, then the action figures. By the way, I consider Barbie dolls to be the first action figure. That hard little plastic body is just not cuddly!

Children pick up on things they see adults doing even if its on tv. Of course right now we are trying to teach our 22 month old how to treat a baby so we show her what to do with one. Since she has a baby sister coming in 6 weeks. She doesn't play with all girl toys. She will pick up some little cars sometimes and play with them
