Hard crusted rolls so easy to make from the machine cycle dough

I have a bread machine, and just made the dough in it today. I used the french bread recipe for bread. When the dough came out, I divided it into a slew of small round pieces and baked them, after an hour of rising covered. They came out perfect. They are hard to find in the market like this. Nice and crusty on the outside, yet soft and firm in the inside.

These are my very favorite rolls they are the same as the German broetchens. I dont have a machine and as I am a lousy baker the only place I could find them was in "Publics" grocery store ...unless I knew someone who could send me some hint, hint (LOL)

My husband loves these. All the rolls we find in the markets are soft crusted. He likes them really hard. I just ate one. It's like potato chips, gotta get another. You can make this by hand. It's an easy recipe. I never used the breadmaker until my athritus kicked in big time. Give it a try. If I mailed them to you, they would be stale by the time you got them, sorry.:)

Yes, I know what that is. I would say this is similar to that.

I have been lazy about my bread machine, and have not used it in awhile. I think I would enjoy doing this, and there are such great recipes out there to use in it. Thanks for the good advice.

I hope that you will get one. If you like bread, you will have a ball with it. I have made yeasted coffee cakes with it, as well as bread and rolls.

Thank you for giving me the idea of using the bread machine to make bread. The other day I tried a bread recipe but I had to knead the dough. It's a good idea to use the bread machine to do the work. I love French bread and maybe I have a recipe for French bread in the paper that came with the bread machine. Thanks margianneart.

This sounds great. I have a bread baking machine and bake bread often. At least 3 times a week I use it and love the homebaked bread. So for a change instead of having bread from the dough I cut it up and bake rolls in the oven. This is not only a welcome change but it saves time to kneed the dough in the machine and it is not as messy like doing the whole preparation by myself which I have done often, too. I just love the smell and taste of home baked bread.

That is how I made these rolls. I love the smell too. My husband will be thrilled when he has it for dinner tonight, as he loves hard rolls.
