I don't do this. Besides - who knows how dirty a book is, and where it has been??

I never do this in my entire life.I have to use my finger in opening the pages of the book.Yes I agree with you that sometimes even cockroaches are licking also the books.

I never like this habit as the pages of my new book will be contaminated by our saliva and our mouth also contaminated too. Worse still if it were a borrowed book and this will be extremely in-hygienic.

I don't. It just weird to lick a finger before it. I just flip the page, especially if you read with enthusiasm. But i surely don't lick my finger first. Just like you said, we never know how dirty the book is.

hi djdeep. No I don't do this. Why do people lick their finger before turning the page? lol. I have seen people do this and I do not understand how it helps? I did try it once to see if it would help and it did not. I licked my thumb as an experiment! That is all, honestly! lol. All that happened was the print got on my thumb. It nearly tore the pages as well. No I can't for the life of me understand how this could possibly help. As you say it probably makes the finger or the thumb dirty. It's only dirty though if you put the finger or thumb back in the mouth after turning the pages. Cheers djdeep. :)

We were always made to wash our hands before handling anything other than paperback books when I was growing up. I would never lick my finger mostly because it would possibly damage the paper, and in a place that receives a lot of wear to begin with.

I've seen others do it, but I don't do that. Even if a book has been bought new at a bookstore, one still doesn't know how sanitary the book is. Yuck!
