It's not normal practice for western families to give a dowry with their daughters. it probably does happen here, but among families of eastern origin. It is normally western custom for the bride's parents to pay for the weding ceremony though, and these days, that can get VERY expensive!

Hello mariyamaka!(",) Muslims in the Philippines still practice giving dowry to the bride. I understand that in India it is the bride who will give the dowry but here in the Philippines it is the groom who gives dowry. I haven't witnessed a traditional Muslim wedding yet that's why I can't tell you more about it.(",) Correct me if I'm wrong. All I know is that dowry is given according to the degree finished by the girl. If the girl is already a professional, a doctor perhaps, then for sure the dowry is very high. How about there in your country? Where to you base the amount of dowry that should be given?(",)
