After 6 o clock and NO Rice Policy? Does it work for Diets?

Some say that eating before 6 o clock at night works for people who wants to lose weight. Meaning after 6pm they will not eat until 6 or 7 in the morning. They also said that eating at 6pm and sleeping after 3-4 hours may help turn the food we eat to fats. I also heard that eating NO RICE at all will also make us lose weight. Is this true? I want to lose weight myself. And as of now im into medical ways of losing weight. However im open to this type of diets if it works? What do you think?
